I just recently purchased and installed an ATI PowerColor x800GTO 256MB AGP 8X graphics card and AGP Texture Acceleration has become unavaliable.

I've tried a lot of things, I've reinstalled DirectX 9.0C, reinstalled the Catalyst drivers after a full driver clean, I've installed the nforce2 motherboard drivers, and I've enabled AGP in my BIOS, now I'm just completely stuck.

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1
Asus A7N8X-X Mother Board
AMD 2500+ XP ~ 1.88Ghz
ATI x800GTO AGP 256MB

I know that if I install the A7N8X-X Chipset Drivers it should work, but I have no idea where I can find those, and I'm not to much of an expert on motherboards.

Edit: I've ran into a new problem, with the Catalyst 6.3 Drivers I entered into SMARTGART and set my AGP speed to 4x.. it then reverted itself back to 0x. I heard that if I can set my speed at 4x and put FastWrites on *which are on in the bios* it should work.

I've got the same card as you but PCIx16. I didn't have those dramas however.

Yeah, thanks, I already tried the ones on Nvidia, hopefully the Asus ones will work, because I never noticed these.. thought I would find it in Drivers, not Utilities..

Edit: Tried it out, doesn't work, I installed Service Pack 2, now, and I am going to attempt to uninstall ALL video and motherboard drivers and attempt to do it again, motherboard, then video.. and see what happeneds.

Make sure you use the ATI uninstallation utility from their website...

Did all that, new problem the nForce2 drivers will not install.. the installer simply exits. What a pain in the ***.

I'm now attempting to install the nForce2 drivers from nVidia, and seeing if those will install...

The 5.10 drivers on nVidias site are the most recent, they were released in September of 2004, while the Asus ones were released in May of 2003.

Don't you have an ATI X800 GTO?? That is not an nVidia graphics card. If you are trying to use nVidia drivers for an ATI graphics card, I dare say it won't work.

Well, it still should work, it's an ATI graphics card, but I'm getting drivers for the nForce2 chipset not the ATI card, plus, I uninstalled the card from my devices before installing the agp miniport drivers or attempting to install them, so it wouldn't recognize that it's ATI in the first place.

Gotcha - I take the the MB is an nVidia based board...

Yes, it uses the nforce2 chipset, yet the problem is the setup.exe closes, right when I attempt to install it.

I contacted nVidia, told me to contact Asus.

Workin' on that.. any other suggestions?

Did you install SP2 and subsequent updates?

This is just my opinion - but at the point that you're at, I'd just bite the bullet and start over from scratch.

Format the hard drive
Reinstall Windows (slipstreaming SP2 onto your install disk)
Install the chipset drivers
Install the any other mobo drivers
Install the drivers for any integrated devices (NIC, Sound, etc)
Install the vid driver
Install the NIC drive (if not installed)
Install the rest of the drivers
Then onto installing the programs....

FWIW - you might want to image your drive after all this is done. With an image, you'll be able to restore the image to your hard drive and won't have to reinstall all this stuff each time that this happens.

Fixed it. Reinstalled the drivers, and used the nforce 2 drivers, as well as the ATI Omega Drivers, based off Catalyst, but still worked.. oh well.
