After moving e-mail(MDaemon) from an aging Windows NT 4.0 to a new Dell Windows 2003 Server performance degraded significantly for users accessing e-mail from remote subnets. I used network monitor to view the performance of the NIC while the problem was occurring and the usage was never more than 9%. Remote users would even get disconnected and where unable to ping the server. Users on the LAN were unaffected. As soon as I moved e-mail services back over to the NT Server everything was fine. What would cause this?
