I installed windows2000professional on an IBM Aptiva 2158-500 and there is no sound, The sound icon
is in the system tray and I can acess the master volume control all looks ok. I ran test on the sound
conrols and found nothing wrong. I have done all Windows udates. I checked IBM website support
for new drivers ,but the Aptiva 2158 500 is not listed. The Windows 2000 upgrade report showed
some problems withe the sound software that came with the computer. ESS Solo-1oundBlaster
Compatible (WDM) shows to be installed at this time. Nothing else under sound controls is present.
Is there anything to be done to get sound or am I just screwed.

Hello Goidruleser.
I could not find your Model computer on the web site. I did find the following W2k drivers.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss...p;validate=true

Would please run either to determine the chipset that is onboard your computer..

Everest Home 1.51
Belarc Diagnostic Tool
Start> Run> msinfo32
Start> Run> dxdiag

I believe Everest will give the best information.

I installed 2 upgrade drivers that the scanner at DriverAgent.com said needed to be upgraded
1 related to video and 1 related to sound which Im having the problem with. After I installed the
driver upgrades I ran a scan again and it showes all was good. I still have no sound though!

Check
1) The speaker are plug into the correct jack.
2) The sound is tuened up both in windows and on the speaker (If appl.).

Checked both of those several times. I might be missing something in windows I have gone though each test
in sound program. With new driver cant run sound tests anymore get message not supported when I click on troubleshoot button.

Sounds like a loose connection on the speaker wires.
