Does anyone know how to prevent Defender from creating restore points?

Everyday it creates about 2 restore points and this is obviously not needed. Once a week maybe, but 14 a week is just overdoing it.

Any tips would be great!

I have read that this is a known problem. At this point the issue can only be overcome by changing/editing the registry which I don't recommend to do. Remember this is a beta product and these bugs should be worked out eventually.

Start/All programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup/More Options - at the bottom of this page there is an option to delete all but the most recent Restore Point.

Just make sure your system is ticking sweetly before you use this option. I feel that 10 too many is better that 1 not enough, but that's just me.

Disk Cleanup will work but it will also delete any manual restore points that may have saved. IMO its not worth the risk of losing all restore points just to eliminate the ones created by Defender.

Cheers for the reply both of you. Like you said quietman, it is in beta stage so i do expect this to be resolved upon final release, for now, like you both quoted, i would sooner have one too many restore points than one too few.

It appears that on some machines Windows Defender will make multiple restore points thereby purging all previous system restore points. Here is an explanation and work around.

I noticed that I get 4 a day. But I still have a weeks worth of restore points. nd I create one everytime I install or clean the registry. So I found some great info my first time on this site. Thanks guys.
I shall do the regedit tomorrow. But I would like for windows defender to make at least one restore point a day.
I believe the reason it does more than one is it runs more than once a day.

Seems that ticking the abovementioned box ("Changes made to Your computer by
software that is allowed to run" ) dismissed the habit of creating either so
called "checkpoints" or any kind of System Restore Points. Mine hasn't done
ANY in 2 days! In the meantime I ran two regular deep scans and one quick
scan (scheduled). So it works the way it should always meant to work. I don't
dig deep though: don't know if this is a "heurestic", coincidental solution
or the new engine's designed to forget this abundant creation of SR-points.
Anyway, thank U all for the good advice - I've already left Ewido behind,
and start using WDef again.
