What is the best way to move files from an old ass HP Pavillon 6350 with no CD/RW and Windows 98 to a new Computer that has CD./RW capability but no floppy drive????

Need to know cheapest and fastest?

The cheapest, and easiest is a crossover cable ($15), if you have a NIC (network card) in each computer. It is fast and your Windows XP computer will have the software to install onto your 98 computer to make it simple.
If you want down and dirty cheap, take the hard drive out of your 98 and install it into your XP computer and "Drag & Drop" the files onto your new XP computer. May sure you set the jumpers to SLAVE before installing the 98 on to the XP computer.
You could also use a USB data cable but they are rather expensive ($30 to $50). Don't use a standard USB cable, you will damage your computer's USB port, and may be the motherboard.

Alternatively if you have some CD-RW disks kicking around (or a memory stick) you could use those.

Dont bother getting a crossover cable from Geeksquad.. 35 dollars for a 14ft cord.. Rip off!

Another way that I have used to transfer a large number of files, but I'd only reccomend this if you're comfortable with opening up your tower and are familiar with IDE cables & jumper settings, is to temporarily attach a spare HD to the source comp, drag all the files over and then attach the HD to the destination machine.
