Did I miss it, or am I correct in saying you don't really have one?

Granted, I myself have Calendar of Updates set as my homepage, there fore I get about 50 chances a day to check things, but I thought I saw a forum for that.

I think thats just as important as breaking news and so forth.

Most people use other sites for this, and it would be a really difficult section to maintain, considering the number of programs that people use and wish to keep current. Perhaps just a link to the common sites would suffice,

Though I'm around and about like most others here at Bleeping Computer...
I still prefer the one stop shopping kind of thing - WalMart for me....

But, you are correct "jgweed" in that we need to minimize our "shopping experiences".

So, as you've suggested the best return for all our "WWW shopping dollars" would
be to have a line/thread/forum with all the requisite check-ins for current updates.

Sort of a one-stop click-on we get the updates that we need daily kind of thread.

I'm sure we could get a couple of volunteers under "Grinler"s" tutelage that would
daily maintain this thread for the benefit of all at Bleeping Computer.

or am I a Pie in the Sky kind of thinker?

Actually, TeMerc, you not only provide an excellant question, but also an awesome solution. Because so many different configurations are on so many different computers, having the update links in your own signature is a fantastic way to accomplish what you are looking for. Not only do you show everyone what you are using, but it will also provide a link for information if they want to know more about it. I know if I used one of your links for a program, and had a question about it, I would be asking you.

Having a security software update forum would be a good idea though.

updates are a way o' life novices may or may not be accustomed to. We recommend updates all the time. programs, smaller apps & utilities, the operating system. drivers. everything. much of this software can run auto-updating files, some that cost money, all that cost memory resources. so conflicts can arise... often involving updates. so naturally manually updating is goin' be considered. or else more problems comin' back in the door they just left. IMHO.

Well, yes, as difficult as it is to keep up on all the apps that need updating, I always post the 'popular' stuff, MS OS's, AAW, SS&D, SG, SB, IE-SPYAD, MVPS Hosts, WinPatrol, and SpySweeper on my site, another MSN site I belong to, and of course over at Spyware Warrior Forums.

There really is a trmendous amount of apps, thats why the COU idea was a brainstorm in my mind. After a while, I realised how easy it would be to keep on top of those I mentioned above, as well as av\firewall OS's and everythng else by simply setting my homepage to COU.

First time i saw this post

I never put this forum in because I did not think I would have the time to update it. If there were people who would be willing to post a quick post when a new security update came out I would be more than willing to add it.

I unfortunately just do not have the ability to add that to my plate.

If in your experience if a security updates forum is kinda field of dreams, build it and they will come (post), then I have no problem adding one.

• Spybot
• Ad-aware
• SpywareBlaster
• AVG
• A2
• Sygate
• Java runtime environment
• Firefox
• CWShredder
• AboutBuster
• and that's about all I keep track of at this time.

I still say, just post the link to the COU somewhere. Having tons of people posting updates, as well as being sure the updates are always reliably current, would be problematic, a duplication of effort and resources with a service already on the net, and a major user of bandwidth and storage space here at BC.

I am with you John.. why not utilize CoU.. that is what it is there for. Why go to so much trouble to start an update forum when there is all ready an excellent one there. Just my .02 cents.. but it seems to me a no-brainer. LOL

Sounds fine with me then..if someone wants to create a topic about the merits of software updates and the excellent site COU, let me know, and I will pin it

OK, how about this, seeeing as everyone wants to utilise COU.

Set up a 'forum', and title it Security Updates.

But, make it so, when they click on Security Updates, they get taken doirectly to COU.

Like it does ^^^up there. Hows that? Now, no one has to add any updates, no one has to miss any, no bandwitdh gets used(or does it )and they can check out the whole calendar easily, then, click the back button, and they are back at Bleeping.

I am very pleased to see the interest in updates and...not wanting to reinvent the wheel...I invite any and all of you to simply bookmark our site (see my autosignature for links) and visit regularly.

We started the site about a year ago because we wanted a simple, user friendly way for users to stay up to date. We also provide a lot of security related information in our forums.

Whooohoooo..........I think I just may try and talk Suzi into doing just that as well. I like it too. As was mentioned, there are sooooo many things to try to keep updated on. On my site, I only post updates for MS Exploits\Updates, Adaware, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster & Guard, SpySweeper, IE-SPYAD, MVPS Hosts and WinPatrol, thats it. Pretty much the staples for the most part. Actually, thats about enough, too LOL.

I have had a link to COU on my site, since I found out about it.

Hope everyone finds it now easier to check updates here.

And yes, there is indeed lots to look at there, not just updates. Tips and tweaks, and boatloads of other interesting things.
