I have a Lite-On DVD+- RW Burner and It won't recognize any other format besides RW. I tried burning SuSE on to a DVD-R but it would not recognize it so I had to use a DVD-RW. I got a copy of my friends Xbox game and the Xbox won't recognize a DVD-RW, only a DVD-R so I'm kind of screwed. Also, I have an old DVD player and it won't recognize DVD-RWs either. If I want to burn a home movie I burn the file to the DVD and put it on another computer to burn the actual AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS otherwise it won't work. Now that I think about it, I can burn the image as a file to the DVD-RW than transfer it to my laptop to be burned. Either way, I'd still like my DVD Burner to burn DVD-R's for convenience and time.

Some burners can be "picky" about media. You may need to try a different brand.
There's a lot of information about burners, media, and related topics at www.cdfreaks.com. There's a whole sub-forum dedicated to Lite-on burners.
Personally I always use +R media, it has some technical advantages, but a very old DVD player might not be able to read it -- check your manual.

Thanks. It seems that my burner can't read DVD- only +. I returned the DVDs and got DVD+Rs and they seem to work ok with the Xbox and the DVD player. Thanks for the help.

Glad the +Rs are working for you.
