I just had five rolls of 35 mm film put on a CD at Ritz Camera. I inserted the CD into the drive to view the pictures. I clicked on the desktop icon on the task bar to open the CD drive on my computer and just flicked and wouldn't open. I took the CD out and did a re-start and the same thing happened. I then went to do a system restore and all the system restore dates were wiped out and I couldn't make another date.

first...right click the icon for your cd drive and find the target...if that doesn't work delete it and make a new shortcut...second...it sounds like system restore is turned off...go to start-run-msconfig-there should be a button for launching system restore...to find out if system restore is turned on right click on MYCOMPUTER go to properties...go to performance...then file system and right at the end of the list make sure system restore is checked...oh by the way system restore won't restore files...check the recycle bin or find an undelete program...search google...
