dc3
My friend is a psychiatrist and one day in the course of our conversation he admitted that even with all of his training he still suffers from dementophobia, imagine that...a shrink afraid of becoming insane.

diphthong
Iodine
If I tell you that I am going to boil a toy because it's filthy and needs sterilized before I return it to my boy I will have made a diphthong type of statement.

dry.gif Hey what is this Reader's Digest increase your word power??? tongue.gif laugh.gif This is turning into a real education players!! grinner.gif

fermata ( there ya go)

The fermata is a musical symbol which indicates a sustained note, but in the Baroque period Bach used it to indicate the end of a phrase.

servitude
spacekitten
In order to get all those cheap products from Wal-Mart, many small kids will be put into servitude in Taiwan and China.

artesian
dc3
The best water I've ever had was from a artesian spring in the high Sierras.

reticulation
georgia
i don't have a lot of ornaments and therefore I don't care about reticulation and their perimeter!! Or do I care about what other examples there are.

Iodine this everyday word game is ruined by new members who think it is whistling.gif the place to make like the Bigger the word so it enhances their Status/Image. I have received so many PM's about them, and tried to ignore them..most from other forums who know me from those. I have been a member in this section for a long time and don't think it is prestigious to talk Big....

So I have had fun with other older members from the beginning simply posting a word, not taking something from a dictionary that is a word not used in normal converstation.....if that is their intention; then I really believe they should start their own....game and play with themselves crazy.gif
We are common American people whose children once enjoyed the game until now!!!

CRAP

BTW Iodine, thankyou for speaking up as you are a Great Gamer as is No one and we all have been around for a Long Time!!!

Cheers!!!

And BTW, this was not meant as a nefarious comment. it was meant in all sincerity to be an observation picked up by another "gamer" of sometime and also a reflection of PM's that I have been receiving.
After all we are here for light hearted fun!!! And that includes my "teens and tweens " who I try to keep interested in Forums where Quality help is available... and for a family that is important as we do not encourage our children to "chat" which they don't/
dc3
If we do not strive to increase our vocabulary and accept the lessor speaking skills as the social norm then our language will turn from a very diversified tool to crap.

Georgia, it's too bad that you feel the way that you do, there are those of us that enjoy learning new things and those of us that don't need a dictionary to choose these words or to look them up in a dictionary to understand most of them. I admit that there have been a couple that have had me running for a dictionary, but I have enjoyed being able to add another word to my vocabulary.

aural
georgia
Some people's ears are aurally sensitive.

I made the comments b/c our "teens and tweens" are active in these games which is what the better half and I prefer rather than have them off "chatting".
When the game turns into using a dictionary their interest wanes especially when many of these words will not likely be used by them today or in the very near future.
Use of the computer by them is limited to their assignments and this site, thus I mentioned it. wink.gif
Our family have been around this site for sometime.
Best Regards.
Iodine
Ladies and gentlemen I have nothing to add to any of the above conversations. Believe it or not I'm keeping my big mouth shut for a change. wacko.gif

*giggles*

I am hoping the PS3 has a greater longevity than my PS2 that began it's "disc read error" messages too soon in it's career and wound up in the toilet. Don't ask. ;)

passion

dc3
As an adult I still find that there are times that I can't determine the difference between passion and infatuation.

disambiguation
Iodine
Are you sure that's a word dc3, I know ambiguous is but this I'm not so sure about, I may have to check your dictionary you fiend. whistling.gif Now if ambiguous means something that has more than one meaning then it would follow that disambiguation would be the removal of the double meaning of a word or sentence. What ya think? close?

egotistical tongue.gif
dc3
Mike was feeling pretty egotistical over the release of his new book "Bass Crazy" until he found out that friends that had tried to google it found that there were two books with the same title, one was about Mike's passion for playing the double bass and the other was about fishing for bass, clearly google had a disambiguation problem. tongue.gif

titmouse

Dreck is slang for trash...and other refuse.

dc3
Yes it is from the old German word, but with the modern connotation. whistling.gif

paradigm
georgia
Paradigm is a word not in my vocab and not used in my grade 5 class at school.
(btw i am one of the younger ones in the family that sometimes play here)

song
dc3
Adding a new word to your vocabulary is easier than learning a new song.

concertina
georgia
Learning a new song is not difficult at all, listen to an ipod and there you go, as for a concertina I don't listen to that kind of music I leave that for those type of music lovers.

genuine
dc3
A concertina is an essential instrument in genuine Irish folk music, the ability to produce chords was a real innovation.

squeeze-box
georgia
My grandma had a " squeeze-box " that she played along with a harmonica on a stand, every Christmas she would play Irish Washer Woman.
