Hello there

What does .NET Framework mean and how do I check to find out whether I have it installed on my pc?

The reason I ask is because I would like to download Paint.NET onto my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1400) and the website asks whether I have it. I only have Paint v5.1 SP2 and I run XP Professional on my laptop.

cheers

The .Net framework is designed for systems integration on a network. See this MS page:
http://www.microsoft.com/net/basics.mspx

"The Microsoft platform includes everything a business needs to develop and deploy a Web service-connected IT architecture: servers to host Web services, development tools to create them, applications to use them..."

I suspect you are trying to install the wrong programme.

I downloaded 'Hosts Secure' yesterday and it could not run because of a problem with .NET 1.1. The fix according to MS was very complicated so I deleted NET 1.1 and its hotfix with 'add/remove programs', and reinstalled it a few minutes ago.

Things seem to be working fine now. Cheers
