Hi there,

Whenever I plug my memory stick into the USB port of my laptop, I get a message telling me that the device will perform faster if I install a Hi-Speed USB Host Controller.

What is it and how do I go about getting one? I have *absolutely* no techie knowledge/skills, so is it something **simple** that someone as clueless as me can do??

cheers

First thing that I'd do is a windows update. The 2.2 usb drivers are missing (or windows "lost" them), so hopefully a few updates will fix this.

Also, I believe that the newer usb drivers are included with the .NET framework. Can anyone verify that? If so, downloading it (from windows) will fix this too. I'm fairly confident that this has solved my usb problems before, but I can't be 100% positive (must be getting senile in my old age dry.gif )

Those are the simple ways, and will also help to keep your computer up to date, although I can't guarentee it'll work.

Hope this helps!

There is no way to add a fast USB (USB 2.0) controller to a laptop. If it's not built into the computer you need an add-on card, and laptops don't take those. (No room inside the case.)

The memory stick will work fine with your USB 1.1 controller, so just ignore the message.
