My son is haveing a problem with his computer windows 98.
He goes in to defrag and it sits their between 0 and 1 and doesnt go any higher.
i have told him to remove cookies and do disk clean up . but it still wont work.
he has also stoped every thing from running in the task bar.
he thinks something is bloking him. what can he do to fix the problem?

He may need to run it in Safe Mode. The instructions can be found BC's tutorial on Safe Mode . It would help, if he had the screen saver disabled as well.

When in Safe Mode, it would be a good idea to run Scandisk and let it repair any errors it finds prior to running defrag; the latter may take some time if it has not been run recently.
Cheers,
John

I am also running WIN98 (my mother's PC). When I try to run scandisk it tells me it can't fix errors in FAT. What can I do to fix the errors and run defrag?

Happy Holidays,
BSAC
