Philip
I have recently experienced major problems with the computer freezing when I try to save documents.

Microsoft error help suggests a virus but running a full scan by Macafee shows no infected files.

However I have run another programme Silent Runners that has revealed:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\

INFECTION WARNING! igfxcui\DLLName = "igfxsrvc.dll" ["Intel Corporation"]

HKLM\Software\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Filter\

INFECTION WARNING! text/xml\CLSID = "{807553E5-5146-11D5-A672-00B0D022E945}"

-> {CLSID}\InProcServer32\(Default) = "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11\MSOXMLMF.DLL" [MS].

Is it possible for an infection to be on my system that cannot be found on a Scan.

I would be grateful for any help.

igfxsrvc.dll - part of the Intel integrated graphics controller
MSOXMLMF.DLL - Microsoft Office XML MIME Filter

Those look like legitimate files.
What kind of documents are you trying to save, and where?

Have you run any Spyware/Malware scans?
If so, which programs?
