I am having the same exact problem, and it's very annoying. Can someone shed some light here?

I found this

http://malektips.com/internet_explorer_6_0016.html

but when I try to double click the file it says "The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

Well try opening notepad copying and pasting this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
And then name the file prefix.reg and see if that works. I tried it on mine but it just opened the file in notepad. But you can try and see if it works. Just right click the file and hit merge once you make the file.

willmon18, that regfile won't work because you don't have a header included. That won't fix this problem anyway, but niceresearch. smile.gif

phlipsidez, you've been bit by a flaky update from Microsoft. I can tell this by looking at your log--both Verclsid.exe and HP Share to Web are present. So try the solution in the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us

Before you modify the registry, please make a backup. This is more conveniently done by downloading and running erunt. Do a google for it.

There are other symptoms and workarounds for this problem but i need to do more research. Other software clashes with this update (908531 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908531/) MS06-015) and more info can be found on it here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15875820

Since this is a security update, I hesitate to recommend it be uninstalled. When we get a better idea of the safest workarounds and solution I'll post back. It seems to depend on what is installed, software and hardware, on each individual computer as to what the best solution will be.
