So I've used spybot for years and always been happy with it. But as of lately, I've noticed that the updater hardly ever works correctly. It will start the update and then just leave the update window up, presumably doing its thing, but it will never finish. When it does finish, it usually gives a "bad checksum" status and the updates aren't installed. What is this all about? I've experienced this problem on multiple computers, most of which I know to be problem-free otherwise. Is there something I can do to fix the program, or is there another update method?

Hi David smile.gif

Did you try one of the other update-servers yet ?
Should do the trick if your default updateserver has problems :

Here select another one:

Good luck smile.gif

thanks, i changed the server and it downloaded the first update item but seems to be hanging on the next. or it may just be taking ahwile. One other thing, I'm finding that the cancel button on the update window is useless, it does nothing. If I want to stop the update I have to end task on spybot using the task manager. anybody else experience this?
Scarlett
I experienced all of the above.
I was able to get the actual update.
But I would get bad checksum while trying to get the English definitions.
I just kept on trying, and after about 6 attempts, I succeeded.

Yeah, the lack of CANCEL button is a bit of a pain.
Just to reinforce what Scarlett saw - me too. I searched their website for an answer a while back, and the suggestion there is to try other servers. I noticed that, even though I'm across the pond in the US, the SaferNetworking servers in Europe are the best. Actually, no problems for me since I started using them several months back. It flies!
Scarlett
I had a cancel button. But it would not stop the process.
So I used task manager.

If you encounter any error messages while downloading the updates, you can always manually download them from here.

Yes, my experience is the same, if it gets stuck, get out with Task Manager, try a different server. Safer Networking the best recently.

I agree. I have never had issues with the Safer Networking server. smile.gif
