Hi - I've noticed in Firefox that certain web pages have a symbol next to the name of the site in the address bar and on the tabs for browsing. Does anyone Know how to Program This ??
dalcb22
Thanks.. I will check them out.

This an entry item for the COMPUPEDIA file I'm thinking.

I knew the icon name but was not aware it was self-programable.

Thanks ColdinCbus for the referals.
ColdinCbus
You are quite welcome. One of these days I will get around to posting some of the really cool stuff you can add to the header of your web page that takes advantage of features in Firefox and IE and even Google.

For example you can make Firefox auto detect any RSS feeds on your site by add in a small tag bit to the header.

I knew about favicons but could never find a good generator!

Thanks for letting us know.. what do you think of BC new favicon?

KoanYorel

Is it only for IE? I use FireFox! And where is this Root Directory?
Grinler
Its for all browsers these days. THe root directory is the top most directory of your website
RockIV
the Admin ACP?
RockIV
Er is that in the Admin CP?
Grinler
No its the very top level folder for your site...where the home page is located
RockIV
I cant find it? is it actuall homepage like www.highendpcgamerz.co.nr or Admin Privilages?
Grinler
I am not really sure what you are talking about it...but its the same folder that has the top most html page.
RockIV
I dont get this?? How do you put a favicon? I read all those above links but still dont understand! Please help me!! How can I get it to the root directory?
Grinler
Ok lets say that you have a web site somewhere with a directory structure like this:

/website.com
/website.com/htdocs
/website.com/htdocs/index.html

Your allocated directory is /website.com

Under website.com is another directory called htdocs.

Anything in htdocs is viewable by the internet. This is called your root directory. So for example, for your home page, that is the page people see when they connect to http://www.website.com, it would be called index.html as an example.

Then that means it would have to be stored like this:

/website.com/htdocs/index.html

So for your favicons, you would need it under the root directory which is htdocs. So something like:

/website.com/htdocs/favicon.ico
RockIV
Ok for me it would be http://s13.invisionfree.com/HighEndPCGamerz because that is my homepage! Now I dont have a root directory. So how can I upload the favicon?

Please Help

Rock
Grinler
Do you have ftp access to upload files? Whatever the directory that contains the page that you see when you go to http://s13.invisionfree.com/HighEndPCGamerz is the root directory
RockIV
I still dont get it? So that is my root directory how can I upload pictures to that? I mean as post or what?

Help!!
Grinler
You should have FTP access that you can use to upload to your ftp account. You should check with invisionfree.
RockIV
Ok I'll just ask them if I have FTP Access?
Grinler
Yes
RockIV
Okay. This guy helped me and he gave me some insrtuctions which I did and he told me now I have the favicon! but I cant see it! Can you?
Grinler
Yup I can see it. May I also recommend you remove the bookmark popup to your site. It will drive people away as it wil be perceived as annoying.
RockIV
I know I cant seem to remove it I will ask those guys for help again!
Thanks
