Hey,

Had to re-install firefox and i thought i would add some extensions. i added Ad Block it sounded good but then whenever i opened firefox the window would only be "half size"

i can ofcourse maximize it but when i close it reopen it stays the same

anyway why did i say i installed ad block? well i tried to search google -- i was not too sure what the search criteria should actually be but some results said ad block could cause the problem

well ok so i removed that

yet the problem still goes on

any suggestions?

thanks

Matt.

no not yet

i have not got that many bookmarks but is there anyway of keeping them if i re-install? maybe copying them somewhere and then putting them back once i re-install?

Bookmarks and other personal preferences are maintained in a separate file, so you can uninstall Ff without damaging those. You can also uninstall the extension from tools/extensions/.

Hello,

Try holding Shift when you close Firefox from the maximized screen. I test web pages in different resolutions and sometimes forget to reset-it, and the "Shift" trick always seems to work for me.

Hope this helps.

The only other option I can think of, is to try a fresh install of Firefox.

To completely uninstall Firefox, you will need to delete your Profile folder.
This file is not removed when you uninstall Firefox from Add/Remove.
It will retain all of your previous settings, and re-apply them to your new install, if it's not deleted.
That's why, when you install a new version of Firefox, your previous settings, bookmarks, passwords, etc., all remain the same.
For a Fresh (start from scratch) install, this folder has to be removed.

Uninstall your current version from Add/Remove programs.
Set windows to show hidden files,
How to see hidden files in Windows
Then navigate to:
C:\ Documents and Settings \ "your user name" \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles
Delete this folder (or send it to the Recycle Bin as a backup).
Then navigate to:
C: \ Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox, and delete that folder.
Then reinstall Firefox.

Note: You will have to go back and redo all of your personal settings (Options), as deleting the Profile folder will erase everything Firefox related.
You will be starting with a clean slate.

You might want to make a copy of Bookmark.html while your in there.
It's located here:
C:\ Documents and Settings \ user name \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles \ default.random characters \ Bookmark.html
That way you can replace, the new one created, with the old one, you copied.
Just delete Bookmark.html, and replace it with your copy of Bookmark.html.

do you mean things like saved passwords and so on too?

Everything.
Passwords, saved cookies, user settings, ........ everything.

For your Passwords, you can go to Tools / Options / Privacy / Passwords tab
Click on the View Saved Passwords button.
In the window that opens, click the Show Passwords button.
A box will open asking, Are you sure you wish to show your passwords?, select Yes.
Then you can copy your passwords (or take a screenshot), and save them somewhere.

Hello,

I could be late, but just in case Im not here is some more help for saving some of the files you may want to keep.If you want to save all your extensions without having to go and find all of them agian, try installing this prior to the removal process Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) 1.0

It saves the extensions to a location of your choice, then when you reinstall Firefox, you can install all of them without having to go and find them all again.

Hope I was in time,

Is or was that "Ad Block" a seperate program from someplace like STOPZilla or was it an extension from Mozilla?

Just wondered, I haven't had any probs with adblock. Do you have more than one TAB enhancement extension installed? Some of those may conflict and cause problems.

Got to go. Electrical storm comming in. Gotta shut this thing down.

It's gone for now. Have you found the half screen problem yet?
Matt169
no i am a bit reluctant to reinstall and lose all my passwords hehe

whats a bit annoying is the little built in google search function in the top right is gone from when i last re-installed (not a total reinstall)

it is under the firefox files but doesnt seem to show up at all
ssfire
Oops, missed Tg1911's post. This was just a repeat of instructions on passwords. As for the Google icon, is there any thing up there now? Is the search bar still there?

Let us know what happens.
Matt169
the search bar is there just search engines missing so its a load of use lol

here is a screenshot including the folder called something like "search plugins" under the Firefox folders but in the browser itself they dont show up

and i know countless people will scream at me click "add engine" but that just takes me to Mozilla homepage saying look here are some search engine plugins you can use

and google isnt even on there sad.gif thats the one i want most

and no i dont want to install the google search bar lmao
tg1911
In a new tab, type in about:config, and hit Enter.
Scroll down to browser.search.selectedEngine.
What does it show under the Value column?
Matt169
hi

well installed again and that seems fixed now

only when i start it doesnt open full size

well ill give the shift trick a go see if that works

edit it did work : YEY!! dance.gif

thanks to everyone and nosnhoj for the little shift trick that seemed to work this time
