Wow, you guys saw that? That was quick. I figured that I edited it before anyone saw it! The reason I deleted it was that I didn't want anyone on the forums to "misinturperut" it, and think it was a flame post or anything of the sort.

I'll retype it, but forgive me if it's not exact, as I was just going off on a little "tangent" if you will.

TBH, I'm sick of people being offended, specially immigrants. I don't think that we should change our ways so that we don't offend anyone.

We used to have "Christmas vacation". The idea of Christmas offended others who don't believe in it, so we now have a "Winter break". Oddly enough, the winter break falls the week of Christmas. It offended people, so it was changed.

We used to be able to say "God" in school, like in the pledge of allegiance "one nation under god". Now, we can't say God in our public schools. It offended people, so it was changed.

We can't understand someone who doesn't speak english. So they complained and cried "discrimination" and things were changed (Equal Opportunity says it's an ethnic discrimination, not a language barrier).

Since immigrants don't have to learn English, OUR language, we are now forced to learn theirs. This is why Spanish is now mandatory in (most of, if not all ) public schools.

Somethings that people (specially immigrants) need to remember:

This is America. We speak English, not arabic, spanish, chinese, or ancient egyptian. English.

Don't complain about our country, it's history, or how things are. Our families have fought and died to make this country as great as it is, not your families. You haven't earned the right to complain like we have.

This country was founded by Christians, hence "one nation under God". You don't have to like it, or even like God. But you should respect it, because it's our country, not yours.

Learn to speak our language. Don't make us learn yours. Our country, our language.

American citizens and veterans have fought and died for our freedoms. Personally, I'm a third generation Army veteran. Yes, my Grandfather served in WWII, and my father in Vietnam. My family has earned the right to complain. Don't abuse their gift by complaining and whining every chance you get about our country.

Always remember that this is the land of the free. You are free to leave whenever you like. I strongly recommend this if you're not happy with our ways, our slogan, our beliefs, our language. If it's so hard here, then go back to YOUR own country.

You came here on your own. We didn't invite you. It's rude and uncalled for to show up at someone else's home and complain that you don't like their statue of God, or that you don't like how they talk. What's worse is when you make an entire family change for your own selfish reasons.

Basically, I'm sick of everyone raising a stink about what it's like in their country, even though they're living in ours. Just after 9/11, there was this massive rush of overwhelming patriotism, which touched every Americans heart, mine included. Sadly enough, it was short lived, as ethnic and religious minorities complained about the widespread use of the word "God", mainly when said in the following sentence..."God bless the USA". So, people complained, and things were changed. Now it's "support our troops", or "United we stand", but not "God bless the USA". Nope, can't offend anyone else, even though they're not citizens, or are immigrants, or can't speak english. Nope. I can't walk through my childrens school and say "God bless you". I can't tell someone to learn to speak english. My rights have been limited, through the USA by Americans as a whole trying to be polite and politically correct.

My rights have been weakened. My ability to speak freely has been hindered. My freedom of religon has been silenced. All in the name of not offending others, who were born elsewhere, who don't speak english, and who forces my children to not mention God in school.

Where are my rights? They're put aside in order not to offend anyone. Well, I'm offended. I've fought for this country, and am now a 40% disabled AMERICAN veteran. Yet, I can't say God in my childrens school? I can't complain to a company that I can't understand what their immigrant employees are saying? I have to bend over backwards to not offend someone who has just come to this country, even though I've been here since birth? Yes, I am offended. I am offended. I'm forced to wonder why more Americans haven't asked themselves if they too are offended by having to change an entire countries "everything" so that immigrants can be more comfortable and not be offended by our harsh use of "God" and our repulsive history. Come to think of it, my being offended is an understatement. I am appalled.

With that said, I am not against immigration, nor am I a racist, or any other term that may end in "ist". I'm an American who believes life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and could care less what people who come here from other countries think. Again, if you don't like my home, then go back to yours, you came on your own, uninvited, so feel free to leave rather than complain and force us to change our ways. The freedom to leave, or the freedom to not enter the USA should be remembered by all who enter our country. Our doors are open to everyone, because it's so great. Our doors will remain open should you want to leave. Everyone has their own feelings, beliefs and opinions about things. It's called freedom, hence; "Land of the free". If you don't like it, don't make an entire country change because you don't believe in God, or can't speak english. It's America......love it or leave it. Seriously, love it or leave it.

Just my 2 cents worth. Certainly not meant to offend anyone, just my opinion(s).

Ooof! Another popular, yet controversial topic. I'm with Scarlett on this one.

TBH, I'm sick of trying to "not offend" everyone under the sun. Isn't that freedom of speech, to say "one nation under God"? Nope. It's offending those who aren't christians. Well, there goes freedom of religion, too. You can argue that we can still pick our religion, true, just don't talk about it. Ever. It offends people, and should be changed. (which is why we can't say "God" in school)

"In God we trust" is the national motto. People have already complained about that, it offends them, and it should change.

No more "Christmas vacation"? Nope. Now it's "Winter break"......that just happens to fall on the same exact time every year...the week of Christmas. But it can't be Christmas break, because if offends people, and it should be changed. (which is why it was changed to winter break)

In America, we speak English. People who have immigrated here have the audacity to claim discrimination when we can't understand what they're saying. The can't speak english, and we can't understand their language, so it offends them and needs to change (which is why spanish is now maditory in schools).

I'm rather sick of the complaints that the flag offends people, and that the motto offends people, and that the mere mention of "God" offends people, and am nausiated by the fact that the US keeps bending over backwards to change things as not to offend anyone. Funny thing is that it's the minority that's complaining, and not the majority, yet the majority gets the short end of the stick.

Things that people (specially immigrants) tend to forget:

Welcome to America, where we speak English.
You came here by your own free will, we didn't invite you.
America was founded by Christian people, hence all the references to "God". It's our history. We don't want it changed, and neither should you.
Millions of Men and Women have fought to make this country what it is today. Our families part of that fight, not yours, so don't try to change it until you've sacrificed like our families have.
Our citizens and veterans have sacrificed so that you may live freely. Don't abuse it. Americans have rights that cannot be denied to them, do not take them away from us.
Off all the rights that are written, there is one that is unwritten, but you may use at any time you like: The right to leave.

Basically, if everything offends you so much, then leave.

Thank you stevealmighty for your thoughts! "On Target" it is!
And thank you to those who have
reiterated those thoughts. True Americans!

The outcome of what stevealmighty has rallied against?

Is detailed here in a thought provoking speech
by former Governor Dick Lamm of Colorado.

QUOTE
A Frightening Analysis

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context
his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an
immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to
capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant
college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his
latest book, Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and
illegal - was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would
march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The
American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and
gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat
spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the
United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too
self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard
to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold
Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An
autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"

Here is how they do it," Lamm said:

"First, to destroy America, turn
America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country."
History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and
antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a
blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a
society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it
this way: "The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do
not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Canada,
Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in
which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and
Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces
difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.".

Lamm went on:
Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism'
and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an
article of belief that all cultures are
equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article
of faith that the Black
and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination
by the majority.
Every other explanation is out of bounds.

Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without
much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As
Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly
recently: "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural
experiment might
have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the
dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an
American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us
together." Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own
language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the
salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various
cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather
than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least
educated. I would add
a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to
our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout
rate from high. school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations
and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in
ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of
'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of
success was the fault of the
majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure
on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship,
and promote divided
loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress
differences rather than
similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each
other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse,
peaceful, or stable society is against most historical
precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation
together. Look at the ancient
Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they
possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same
gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia,
threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to
overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that
nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" -- From
many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the
'pluribus'. instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as
Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to
talk about anything
against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic'
in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking.
Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion
and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having
established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the
doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make
it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra:
That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be
good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the
cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow
Profound silence followed. Finally he said,.
"Lastly, I would censor
Victor Hanson Davis's book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes
the plan to destroy America. If you feel America. deserves to be
destroyed, don't read that book.".

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous
cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room
knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically,
quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today.
Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the
foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even
barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as
we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third
World as corporations create a Third World in. America - take note of
California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and
growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that
story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War
is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength.".

Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the
conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is
deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration
monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California
wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American
Dream.

University Professor Pushes for Mexican Homeland in US
QUOTE
Truxillo, who advocates an Hispanic separatist movement, said that this new Mexican state should include California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado, as well as Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. He also suggests the name for the new fatherland be “Republica del Norte”...The Associated Press reports that UNM Professor and Director of UNM's Southwest Hispanic Research Institute Felipe Gonzáles said that there is a “certain homeland undercurrent” amongst Hispanics who continue to believe that their lands were stolen by the US.

One possible solution given some consideration in Washington by a few "pro-enforcement" Republicans is to pass a law about illegal immigration that matches, word-for-word, the law in Mexico.

What excactly are you trying to say?
That legal immigrant to the US would have less rights than the aforementioned criminals, if certain people had their way. And that such a situation would be extremely frustrating and not funny to those immigrants who actually bothered to jump through all the hoops it takes to get here legally.

To push criminals in line ahead of those waiting to earn their citizenship is an affront, if not an outright crime. Seriously, couldn't such a procedure be classified as fraud, theft, grand theft, aiding and abetting in the comitting of a crime, etc.?

[sarcasm]
Makes perfect sense to me - if you have 2 otherwise identical immigrants, you should bestow more benefits, rights, privileges, etc. on the illegal one, rather than the legal non-criminal one.

An immigrant's(legal immigrant, not yet a citizen) take on your take on this ... situation

This country looks like it's up for sale to the highest bidder, be they American Corporations, Chinese Politicians, or just squeeky wheels from various sides of the political spectrum. The fact is, you're not gonna stop illegal immigration, fence or no fence. The fence is a nice Potemkin facade, but it doesn't really address the issue of Illegal immigration being profitable. And that issue goes deep into the both wallets of Corporate America, and the tin hearts of left-leaning politicians who want to look like they care about illegals for political gain.

Americans, your country is for sale - From the Kelo Decision(expanding Eminent Domain into a 'might makes right' policy, effectively robbing America of property rights) to the infatuation American politicians have with Chinese dictators to the political necessity of supporting illegal immigration even though over 80% of the voters oppose it, this country will be lucky to stay on maps of the future.

A similar fate befell Poland several times in it's history. One of those times a unanimous vote was actually taken to disband the Nation! Some simple, easy reading on what was once the USA of Europe: http://www.gopoland.com/history/h3.shtml

Summary of the Rumor
The email says that a "totalization" agreement between the U.S. and Mexico would grant Social Security benefits to Mexicans, including some who are here illegally, even if they didn't work in the U.S. long enough to qualify for Social Security benefits.

The Truth
According to the Social Security Administration, the U.S. has similar totalization agreements with other countries including Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada Norway, and the United Kingdom.

Critics are hopping mad about a totalization agreement with Mexico. They say it will cost upwards to one billion dollars to provide Social Security benefits to Mexicans who will qualify. They say that at a time when the Social Security system is such a focus of concern, it's not time to grant such benefits to such a large group of foreigners.

Supporters say totalization benefits large numbers of Americans too, not just foreigners in the U.S.. One of the problems, according to the Social Security Administration, is that Americans, for example, who have worked in both the U.S. and a foreign country may end up being double taxed for retirement benefits. Additionally, there are some workers who have worked, for example, for a period of time in the United States then worked for a period of time in a foreign country, but failed to qualify for benefits in either country. The totalization agreements allow both U.S. and foreign workers to qualify for benefits based on the combined coverage of both countries.. According to the Washington Post, there is an estimated 37,000 Mexicans who worked legally in the United States and paid into Social Security but have not been able to collect their checks. One of the controversies of totalization is that it may include thousands of foreign workers who were in the U.S. illegally but did pay into Social Security. Immigration reform in 1996 cut their benefits.

I happen to love mexican food, and some of the women are nice to look at too so Im not all for them leaveing the county altogether. They have good and bad aspects of being here it depends on which side you look at the situation. They provide cheap labor to employers vs. they take jobs away from able bodied americans whold would need that job to support thier family in this very expencive economy. Since Mexicos cost of liveing is so much cheaper I say we all go there and live for a while then maybe they will not want to come here so bad lol. They have it easy there in Mexico, cheap liveing expence, very few inforced laws, tequlia, what more could you want?

To blame one country on illegal immigrants is kinda silly. The US has issues. Every country has their issues. The US is no different. The difference with the US is that when we had our "issues", we dealt with them. No one helped us in the civil war, we dealt with it. I believe that we are a better country for it.

We have grown to be a powerful force, not to be dismissed easily, which is (IMHO) why we are the target of so much slander, aggrivation, and terrorism attacks. Countries that aren't doing well are basically "jealous" for lack of a better term. While other countries have asked us for assistance, there are others that simply expect it, then stab us in the back when we ask a favor of them. Kuwait is a prime example. The US stepped in and helped Kuwait and kept the government from being overthrown. Now, when we started the war on terrorism, the oil rich kuwaiti's opted not to help. Thanks a lot. One could argue that our helping Kuwait was pollitically driven by the amount of oil that we bought from Kuwait. Perhaps it was. Nonetheless, we still helped them, and American soldiers perished in doing so. When we asked Kuwait for help, they declined, stating it was none of their business. Well guess what? Your almost being overthrown was none of our business now, was it? Yet we still helped.

The US has helped countless countries with a multitude of things, pollitcally driven or not, we still helped. It seems as if we are on our own when it comes to ourselves. Oh well, serves us right. Why would a 3rd world nation give money to one of (if not thee) richest nation in the world? It's ok though, when that 3rd world nation is in trouble again, we'll step up to the plate and help. It's expected.

Iran snubs it's nose up in the air at us boasting of a nuclear weapons program. Afghanistan is ripped apart by decades of civil war. Iraq is killing its own people in slaughter houses and raping women and corrupting children. Korea says they'll be making nuclear weapons that will reach the US with ease (basically threatening millions of Americans). We are at the brunt of a lot of bull. It's ok, we've got a big chest, and some strong allies. We'll deal with it. We usually do, even before the United Nations (UN) acts. Heck, why wait for a bunch of politicians to decide what's right, all the while people are dying needlessly. Yep, we're there to help.

It's cool though. I know that if I were unable to help my children, that I would want some one to step up to the plate and help them. The US helping other countries is no different. This generation won't notice a difference. Neither will the next. The third and fourth generations will be better off, along with their entire country. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few".

Where I disagree is that the US is failing to take care of its own. Social Security is a flop. Immigrants may or may not be to blame, either in part or in whole. I look at it this way. If I put in for social security my whole life, then along comes an immigrant and puts in for social security for 2 years, then retires and gets medicare/medicaid.......why do they get as much as me when I've been here longer and I've put into the system longer. That's neither here nor there. When Social Security goes under, I want my money back. I swear I'll sue some one. It's like putting money in a bank, then the bank goes out of business. I should get my money back that I've put in. Of course, I'll be to poor to hire a lawyer tongue.gif

I stand firm that we should help ourselves first and foremost. We should hurry with this war on terrorism, then concentrate on quickly getting Afghanistan and Iraq back on their feet. Then it's time to clean house. Clean up the US. Deport all illegal aliens. Employ the unemployed. Cloth and shelter the cold and homeless. Fix the system so it works. Make it so that America stands tall, and more importantly stands proud.

Hey, it's my dream, and I can make it as big as I want.

I came to the same conclusion, which is pretty obvious if i could figure it out, but i was of the understanding that there are heavy penalties now against employers of illegals, so whats the problem here, why is Seaboard able to do this?
stevealmighty
If they are employing illegal aliens, then all they have to do is say that they showed them a fake green card. Also, with the money that they'd save from under-paying their illegal immigrants, is no doubt less than the fine that they'd recieve from court.

Of course, them hiring illegal immigrants as emplyees is unproven, too.

Yea, but i believe its much more difficult than that now...Dont they need a social security number? It should be the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the credentials check out, as it is here in ireland. Papers, documentation = trail = no excuses.

As for the fine. Well shutting doum the business would suffice. That might discourage them abit more.

Seaboard's solution: recruit Hispanic laborers from other areas of the U.S. as well as from Mexico and Central American countries like Guatemala. Soon the recently arrived immigrants began to stream into Albert Lea--with no money and no place to stay. It was a practice Seaboard would repeat in other towns, in other states.

It has already been established that companies ignore the law in order to maintain a cheap labor work force.
And it has surfaced also that social security numbers are being stolen. Do you really think that an illegal alien will use their real name? Do you really think that these greedy companies care if they are documented or not? There in lies half of the problem.

Steps to take, arrest all employers that hire illegals, deport all illegal aliens, and seal the border.
snyper
Hi,

Maybe you have already stated, but the quote below always makes me a little nervous, seen as i am the far side of it, what steps are you willing to accept to "seal the border"
I did read the quote that the border is like swiss cheese, even after 9/11
But there will need to be alot of treaty changes inorder to seal the border, how do you stop people from legally coming in on a visa and staying without stopping them coming in altogether? The latter not been an option for what i hope are pretty obvious reasons.

Many of you were saying that you have no problem wiht legal immigrants, but I ask you: do you know what it's like to gain legal passage to the U.S.? I personally am a natural-born citizen here and all my family has been from here for many many generations, but I've had many friends who are immigrants here, both legal and illegal. I got to see very closely how the visa situation can be so challenging, at least for Latin Americans. First of all, it is a corrupt system that runs on bribes. Second of all, the vast majority of illegal immigrants are simply people like you and me who are searching for a better life. Who of us would not do whatever is in our power to ensure that our family has food to eat every day, a shelter, access to medical care, etc. Can you imagine what you would do when your family is living a life where you or your husband or wife cannot find work while your family needs food and shelter and doctors and clothes? And did you know that to get a visa to come here, you have to prove that you have x amount of money to your name before they even grant you a visa. When my ex boyfriend went back to his country to renew his visa, they delayed his return multiple times, made him travel to different places to get the necessary papers and have the necessary interviews and made him wait longer than they had originally told him. So basically, he went back to his country and did not work for 2 months, spent money on travel and living expenses, pratically lost his job that he had in the States because he was delayed, and came back almost broke. When he left for there, he had money saved up for a car, for a home. When he came back, it was all gone. Not to mention the fact that many times sponsors of visas take advantage of the people and charge them money, even though it's illegal. Can any of you take off 2 months from work and travel around without losing your job or your savings?
OK, and honestly, "we're being taken down from the inside" ?????!!! what's that about? how can you honestly say that?
Much of this land actually used to be part of Mexico-- and NO I"m not saying that in a revolutionary sense saying that Mexico needs to take back it's land, I'm not even hispanic. We took over this land from Native Americans in a brutal manner, now you're going to say that after many peaceful protests and a few pockets of violent ones, that they're taking it over?
Even like the maybe three people who have said that out of millions, do not represent even close to a majority of hispanics. They are extremists. Just like the KKK were an extremist group- are all white people associated with the KKK just because the KKK were white?

Another thing, I am actually going to participate in a march next week, and I'm not an illegal immigrant. I just wanted to point that out. I am a white, native born american, with Scottish and German ancestors and yes, I support Hispanic Civil Rights. The reality is that a whole lot of illegal immigrants are too afraid to participate in the protests, and the people who are planning it in many cities are all legally here. Anyone I know who's going to the march are all legally here. I noticed that many think that it's all illegal immigrants in the marches.
Please just remember that every single illegal immigrant I have met is here to work and make money for his or her family so that they can survive or at least find something better for their family. What parent does not want the best for their kids? What parent can watch their kid not eat enough food or have some things that he or she wants?
Not to mention that every single immigrant I have met, illegal or legal, has had the desire to learn the language here, even though it may take a while and is uncomfortable.

After saying all this, what I think is that before our government can crack down on illegal immigration, the system needs to be improved so that these people can actually get here legally. After that happens, then by all means, let's crack down on illegal immigration because then we know exactly who's coming and going.

Hello Lovestherain, Welcome to BC

I have read your piece in full and you have made you point clear and your opinion is appreciated.
I understand why you are sympathetic to the "plight" of illegal mexican workers in the US, probably because of your personal expierence, which will no doubt have been part in forming your beliefs. I on the other hand am not an american, i dont live or work in america. I am looking at this situation from both sides and although i do believe that in the vast majority of cases that the mexican workers may want to work and learn english the facts are facts and they are costing the american taxpayer billions of tax dollars every year through loss of tax revenue and healthcare payments which they dont contribute to. The simple reality is that i dont believe america has any responsibility to make legal immigration easier for these workers because there is not a labor deficit in the US to the same extent as there is in my country, and even if there were a deficit, it doesnt require, anything more than temporary work permits.

The tone of the debate is such that a independant may conclude that this is an Anti-Mexican debate, i assure you that is not the case. Without speaking on behalf of other members i would point out that they feel very strongly about this issue and may feel agrieved by the situation, however this is only natural and i see the exact same feelings develop in my country particularly toward so called Nigerian "refugees" that recieve more benefits in our country than the native irish due to in the vast majority of cases a bogus status.

Again thank you for taking the time to post your opinion and i look forward to your further participation

Poll: Dems leap ahead of GOP on illegals.

The majority of people in America apparently have no clue what is going on at the national level. How could they support those who overwhelmingly voted against increased funding for border enforcement and want to grant citizenship?

Maybe its because the elitists in the MSM have the same position and do not report news which puts the Dems in bad light. Do your research people. Don't depend on a biased MSM for any news.
stevealmighty
Have to do a lot of research when it comes to bills/budgets being passed or shot down. Most of them won't allow a "single line veto", which would allow a party/person to veto a single line/subject/phrase in a law/bill/budget. Lots of times they'll say something like "bill shot down for funding border patrol", where as the original bill might've included a 3x payraise for the person in charge of the border patrol. The person in charge doesn't need a triple pay raise, so the bill is shot down.

Other times it's purely political. If the dems suggest something that the reps don't like, yep, it'll get shot down. Works vice versa too. Politics, gotta love it dry.gif

I have been watching the posts on this subject for sometime now hesitant to give my opinion. I Have Son, I see some televison shows and don't watch some televison that most people probably do that don't have kids. I've told a few people of my views with the cartoon "Dora the Explorer" as a way to force Spanish into American homes and to start teaching kids to be bilingual at an early age, and that soon I believe that Spanish will soon be a required couse in our school systems. My Son knows more Spanish than I do and he isn't even 4 & I'm sure some are of the opinion that thats a good thing.

I was driving in my town and seen a Mexican Flag on someones car, that compiled with the above made me do some thinking. What would happen to us if we did the same things they have done:

Enter Mexico illegally. Never mind immigration quotas, visas,
international law, or any of that nonsense.

Once there, demand that the local Mexican government provide free
medical care for you and your entire family.

Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.

Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc.

Procreate abundantly. Deflect any criticism of this allegedly
irresponsible reproductive behavior with, "It is a cultural thing. You would not
understand.

Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop, or
proudly display it in your front window or on your car bumper.

Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children
do likewise.

Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.

Demand a local Mexican driver's license. This will afford other legal
rights and will go far to legitimize your unauthorized, illegal, presence in
Mexico

Drive around with no liability insurance and ignore local traffic laws.

Insist that local Mexican law enforcement teach English to all its
officers.

Good luck, You'll be demanding for the rest of time or soon be dead.

It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world EXCEPT
right here in the United States. Land of the naive and bleeding hearts!

To blame one country on illegal immigrants is kinda silly.
I think blaming one country, the US for illegal immigration is not at all silly. Immigrants flock here illegally from many nations, and we don't do much to stop it. We really should take the blame and response-ability for that one. I'm as guilty as anyone - I don't vote.
QUOTE
Where I disagree is that the US is failing to take care of its own. Social Security is a flop. Immigrants may or may not be to blame, either in part or in whole. I look at it this way. If I put in for social security my whole life, then along comes an immigrant and puts in for social security for 2 years, then retires and gets medicare/medicaid
As an immigrant, I am extremely offended and at the same time extremely curious as a result of some of these statements

1. Nothing offends me, as a legal immigrant, more than Americans failing to differentiate between Law-Abiding immigrants who come to the US legally and earn higher than average salaries, provide jobs, etc. (I am speaking for my family, and several legal immigrants I have worked with from various nations) with common criminals who steal their way into this great nation.

2. My father, who spent 20 years running a family business in the US, paid his share into Social Security, and all other taxes, and recently became unable to work due to health problems, just received a ruling from the Social Security Administration - His benefits will be $200 per month - that's right, after 20 years, $200 USD, $200 American Dollars per month. And we count ourselves extremely lucky to have received that much. There were several points at which my father was denied benefits.

This is where the extremely curious part comes in - If there is any truth at all to what you said about immigrants retiring after 2 years, please post an example. I'm sure my father would benefit from the advice.
QUOTE

MIAMI - Federal immigration authorities arrested 183 fugitives and other illegal immigrants in Florida alone last week, the state's largest roundup in a single week, officials said Monday.

The arrests included people convicted of sex offenses, child abuse, cocaine trafficking and weapons violations. They were originally from 26 countries and most eventually will be deported.

Of the 183 arrested, 130 were fugitives who had already been ordered deported by an immigration judge. The remaining 53 were also illegal immigrants who happened to be present when fugitives were taken into custody, Rozos said.

Ninety-five of those arrested were in South Florida, 35 were arrested in Tampa, 30 in Jacksonville and 23 in Orlando, according to ICE.
