Hi everyone

My XP machine keeps shutting down (restarting) every 10 minutes or so, I have checked the power supply fan and the motherboard fan, both are working. Any suggestions? Its an older 300 Celeron chip with integrated sound and video. Its been a great machine for internet and basic stuff till now.
Thanks
acklan
You may have had a RAM module fail. Here are two memory test programs to test your RAM.
Memtest86 "A Stand-alone Memory Diagnostic"
MicroSoft's Memory Test
You only need to run one, but I like to give people a choice.

Thanks for the help but I dont get it. The program you gave me to run creates a start up file and that I do not understand. Sorry. If it is Ram problem can I switch it out, I have a few other sticks lying around.

That is the easiest way. Yes swap out the RAM. If it is bad you should know it fairly quickly

it sound heat related to me, after 10 or 15 minutes u say? do u have a can of air? lol sounds funny eh? compressed air in a can, spray the air around your cpu and fan and housing. also, look at your motherboard, check for swollen capacitors, the top should be flat, not bulged out. if u have enough air, spray some in ytour power supply too. also, acklan could have hit it on the head too, it very well could be ram.
here is a link to show you what a capacitor is, there is many on your motherbaord.
