Does anyone know by any chance what is contained in a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) or how they work..From what I have learnt, they are EXTREMELY important. My question however is if the following passage is true:

Theory
A Dll file contains multiple access and exit points for programs depending on it. This means that one program would access it for a different procedure than another app at a different point in the file (hence its dynamic attributes).

If a dll file of a particular version is replaced by the same dll made on a different date, some programs would generate an error or in some cases, malfunctioning would occur with no apparent reason because the expected entry point of the dll for a particular program is no longer available. Some Dll files can be overwritten by older versions where downloaded programs are installed that provide demonstrations (games and freeware with magazines, etc.)

I'm very intrersted in how files work together, if anyone knows a good, reputable site that can discuss file and windows operating system concepts in depth I'd appreciate it if you could share the site address.

Many thanks,
