Emachine 400i
256 Ram
Windows 98 version 4.10.1998
My computer seems to have "lost" it's two CD-ROMs (CD-ROM,CD-RW)
When I boot up it doesn't see them.
When I look in -- Control Panel/System/System Properties/Device Manager it doesn't show CD's but under Hard Disk Controllers it shows three entries:
1. Intell®82371AB/EB/MB PCI Bus Master Bus Controller
2. (exclamation mark in yellow bubble) Primary Ultra ATA Controller
3. (exclamation mark in yellow bubble) Secondary Ultra ATA Controller
If I try to "Install New Hardware",the Add New Hardware Wizard
shows the devices in the list as
(exclamation mark in yellow bubble) Primary Ultra ATA Controller
(exclamation mark in yellow bubble) Secondary Ultra ATA Controller
Highlighting either one and going to Properties says that
Device Status is ....This device is either not present, not working properly,or does not have all the drivers installed.
Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.
If I try upgrading I'm told that the best driver is already installed.
What should I try next??
Thanks for any help! Sharps4570@bresnan.net
