What is the best free virus protection software that's out there, if any?
Thanks!

AVG is good, but you may also want to try AntiVir

There are several very good (and free) anti-virus applications available; these are listed here:

The great thing about these free applications is that you can download and try each one to see which seems best for you. I myself have used AVG Free for over three years, and have found it to be quite good.

I am also a long time AVG user. I recommend it highly.
Once you have your antivirus don't forget your layered protection..

AntiVirus
AntiSpyware
Firewall

While a good antivirus will cover alot of your needs, the other two should not be neglected. Basic coverage would be for W2k, XP Home, and XP Pro,..

AVG, Microsoft Defender, Spybot S&D, AdAware SE, and SyGate Firewall

All of these programs are freeware and essencial to a secure computer.
