AVG is good, but you may also want to try

There are several very good (and free) anti-virus applications available; these are listed here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.htmlThe great thing about these free applications is that you can download and try each one to see which seems best for you. I myself have used AVG Free for over three years, and have found it to be quite good.

I am also a long time AVG user. I recommend it highly.
Once you have your antivirus don't forget your layered protection..
AntiVirus
AntiSpyware
Firewall
While a good antivirus will cover alot of your needs, the other two should not be neglected. Basic coverage would be for W2k, XP Home, and XP Pro,..
AVG, Microsoft Defender, Spybot S&D, AdAware SE, and SyGate Firewall
All of these programs are freeware and essencial to a secure computer.
