What version of Java??
What Operating System??

Are you up-to-date with Windows & Java Updates??
dtop
dry.gif Bud,
I don't know what version it is and I am running Windows ME. And I don't know of any updates on Java, but my updates on windows have been completed. How can I find out what version it is??
Thank you for your help
River_Rat
Have you downloaded Jave from Sun.

Look in the Control Panel for a Java Icon. You also check for udates here.

Look in Add & Remove Programs it will tell you the version.
If it is 1.42 Remove it.

Download the updated version.

I have tried to download Java from Sun. I couldn't automatically down load the software and I also tried a manual download to my desktop. I have the icon on my desktop which I didn't have before. But I also get a error message when I try to get verification of the installation. It states that it encountered an issue while trying to automatically install java software. As a result the software wasn't installed properly. It does't list Java on my add or remove programs. I did a search for java files and I have a bunch, 8 folders , 3 java icons and somemore different ones. I know I have java on my system because it is needed on some of my applications which I can access, but not good. whistling.gif

OK
You have the current version you just need to open the Control Panel>Double Click Java icon>Update Tab>Check for updates.
dtop
I did that and there were two updates to install. When I went to install them it just beeped and a Java error came up on my task bar. When I clicked on it a error message appeared; "Installation of update to Java ™ platform was not completed".
River_Rat
Open Java again>Click Delete Files>Then try to download updates again.
You will have to be connected to the internet.

If it will not install check for spyware & malware.

Bud,
I hate to keep bothering you with this problem. I downloaded the killbox and did a clean-up of all the files and I still cant get the Java up-dates to install.
River_Rat
Killbox is used by security people to delete stuborn files.
What are you using it to delete??

Did you run the cleaning programs I posted??
Did they find any spyware &/or malware??
Did you dump the Java Temp Files??
Control Panel>Java icon>Delete Files

I downloaded killbox because it said to under "Take out the trash". I ran it to deleate the files that are in a default location. I haven't run the other programs that you listed, but i will start.
Thank you

I don't think I told you that I have Mcafee security installed on my computer, virus scan and firewall. I do a scan and nothing is found.

You do not have a NT base system but if it worked then that's fine.. thumbup.gif
Always us caution when using programs that have the ability to remove important OS files.

Yes Please run the cleaning programs and see if anything turns up.. cool.gif

McAfee is a good program, little of a resource hog but good, we are mainly looking for spyware.
Do you keep your subscription renewed & updated??
No virus software is 100% & I have seen viruses slip by.
