What sort of partition tool did you use?
What version of Windows?
What version of Linux?
Crasher12
Windows media center is my operating system
i used partition magic, norton's i think
and i was going to boot off a linux cd that i burned and i didnt get that far
{i was going to use puppy linux}

You should still be able to boot off the LiveCD and complete the install
which should give you a proper boot loader.
Otherwise you have to have the Windows CD to recover the MBR.
Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD before hard drive.
Crasher12
How would i do that? is there special software i need and which linux would you reccemend
raw
You burned a puppy LiveCD? You can use that or you can try PCLinuxOS

I don't have much experience with Puppy and installing it to the hard drive perhaps acklan will see this thread and fill you in.
PCLOS is pretty straight forward...boot from the LiveCD log in as root and theres an icon on the desktop - "Install to Hard Drive"

PCLinuxOS will take me about 12 hours to download, (i have Cable) so if you have a suggestion that wont take 12 hours it will be better for me, if not i'll just let it go over night
acklan
Hi. Puppy is a 50mb download and if you run it from RAM you can use the disk utility to partition and format your drive. Pupy was written to operate on a FAT32 partition. I have a cable modem also. Puppy is a 30min download.
If you had a NTSF partition be sure to download the NTFS patch for Puppy.
What do you want to do with puppy.

Do you need a iso burner software to burn linux on to a disk?
acklan
Yes it is and iso image. Nero or similar software has that capibility.
Crasher12
I couldn't get puppy to download properly so i tried pclinusos and it worked like a charm, (Thanks for trying to help me with Puppy). It works but partition magic screwed with my windows so I'll be using linux for a while. I transferred some winamps from my windows and it wont play. I didn't know if i need any special program, if i do please help. Thanks for your help Raw and acklan for all the help.

Do you mean MP3's? PCLOS should have no problem playing MP3.
Do you get any specific error message?
Crasher12
Sorry, Wma files, it doesnt do anything when i open them
raw
What application is trying to open them?
Right click on the wma file and open it with kaffeine.
Your default may be Amarok and i don't think it supports
wma's.
Crasher12
It still wont open it.
raw
Open Kaffeine.Click on Settings - xine Engine Parameters
Click on the decoder icon and verify that win32 codecs point to
/usr/lib/codecs
Open Synaptic Package manager and verify that the Win32 codecs
are installed. KMenu - Configuration - Packaging - Synaptic Software Manager
I did a search on the PCLOS forum and eveything says wma should work right off the bat.
Crasher12
Thanks I'll try it when i get back home. I'll give you a call again if it doesnt work.
Crasher12
Even though i fixed the decoder to your perameters it still wont play
It tells me "The sorce Seems encrypted , and cant be read. (Media stream scrambled/encrypted)
