Hi - my name is Alan and I am a NOOB.

I have a digital camera and I have been saving pictures to my hard drive. I have ad CD/DVD drive that can burn cds/dvds.

The operating software is Windows XP and the hardware is a dell system.

I have tried to copy my pictures from the hard drive to a disk (DVD-R) and follow the instructions - the first step is to format the disk. When I try to do that the system gives me a message to install the disk even though I have already installed it. Somehow it does not seem to recognize the DVD-R format. My nephew visited once and was able to do it but I did not understand how he did it.

Any help would be appreciated - I am moving and want to save the pic on disk before moving. Also - can you then put it in a dvd player and see the pictures?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Alan the Noob.

Some DVD burners have issues with -R media. Have you tried a DVD+R? You may achieve better results with a +R media.

Also, do you have enough photos warrant using a DVD? That's a lot of storage, and with the average point and shoot digital camera, you can fit a few hundered to a few thousand photos on a CD (depending on the quality that the photos were taken in IE. high, medium, low etc.). You may want to try burning them on a CD and go from there. Worst case scenario is to put all your photos on multiple CD's. Note that most DVD players (for tv's, not computers) will recognize a CD with pictures on it and let you browse through them. There's also software that will let you create a "slideshow" and put some music to listen to. If you want to take the time to learn it, you can also use Windows movie maker to do it.

Hope it helps.
