Hi everyone,

When I try to open Windows Media Player 9 on Windows ME, an error message comes up saying "An internal application error has occurred." What does this mean, and how do I get around it so I can open Windows Media Player? Thanks!
-David-
Hi Sherman8r44

I found a possible solution to your problem. I think you need to reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

Please reboot and tell me if that fixed the problem. Also let me know if the reregistering of the two files succeeded, where there any error messages about files missing?

Thank you for the response David! I was able to reregister jscript.dll successfully, but when I tried vbscript.dll I got an error message saying:

LoadLibrary("vbscript.dll") failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485

So what should I do now?

Hi Sherman8r44

I want to try this approach. Please download the vbscript.dll file from the link below:
vbscript.dll.

Please save it to your desktop and copy the file to:

C:\Windows\System

Then:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.

Please reboot and tell me if that fixed the problem. Also let me know if the reregistering of the file succeeded, where there any error messages about files missing?

vbscript.dll reregistered fine after downloading, but I'm still having the "Internal Application Error" occuring. Any other suggestions?

Do you know/are confident with editing the registry?
David
Sherman8r44
Using regedit? If you tell me what to add/delete I can probably do it.
-David-
I recommend trying this more simple approach to backing up the registry.

1. Click Start /Run and type in "regedit" (no quotes).

2. Next, click the File menu, Export

3. Select a location from the resulting box and give your backup registry a
name. Something like:

Regbackup 02-14-2006. <-- I just put todays date.

excl.gif Just a quick note: by default, Windows backs up the registry when you shut down your machine. The above is probably best used for those (like myself) who are editing registry settings, such as we are about to do!

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c260-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb58}\In procServer32
The (Default) value data should contain the following value:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\JSCRIPT.DLL
If it does not, double-click Default, type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\JSCRIPT.DLL in the Value data box, and then click OK.
4. The ThreadingModel value data should contain the following value:
Both
If it does not, double-click ThreadingModel, and then type Both in the Value data box.
5. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c261-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}\In procServer32
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to edit this key, and then go to step 7.
7. Exit Registry Editor.

Reboot and open WMP. Does it work now?

Still not working. The entries were in SYSTEM instead of SYSTEM32, so I changed that, but I'm still getting the error message. Anything else?

Hey Sherman8r44
I now recommend that you try to reinstall the program. Please follow the intsruction here.
Make sure you use the instructions for 98/Me.
Let me know how it goes.
