How to Close a Misbehaving Program


Guide Overview

The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to end a program that is not responding.

Tools Needed
  • No tools needed.
Instructions
  1. Press "control" + "alt" + "delete" together.
  2. This will open the task manager.
  3. A list of programs that are running on your computer will appear. If the status of the program is "not responding", the program has crashed.
  4. Click on the name of the misbehaving program once.
  5. Click "end task".
  6. The "end task" dialogue box will appear, telling you that the program is not responding.
  7. Click "end now" to close the program.
  8. Exit the task manager by clicking the X in the top right hand corner of the window.

Keep in mind, sometimes if you wait a few minutes, or start another application and leave the hung application along, sometimes the hung application will start responding again, such is the case with Internet Explorer sometimes.
