Creating a Bookmark in Firefox

Guide Overview

The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to bookmark webpages in your Firefox browser so you can revisit them with just a few clicks of your mouse. It also shows you how to organise your bookmarks in folders.

Making a Bookmark
  1. Connect to the internet and launch the Firefox browser.

  2. Navigate to the webpage you would like to bookmark.

  3. Click Bookmarks on the menu bar.

  4. Click Bookmark This Page - an 'Add Bookmark' dialog box will open.

The 'Name:' field will contain the default name of the webpage you are bookmarking, but you can change this to whatever you like.
The 'Create in:' field shows Bookmarks by default.

  5. Click 'OK'.
The webpage will be added to the bottom of the list of webpages which appear when you click on Bookmarks.
Organise your bookmarks with folders

The Internet is a big place and you can gather a lot of bookmarks. Scrolling through one long list would make things dificult to find which defeats the whole purpose, so you can arrange your bookmarks in a folder and subfolder system in the same way that files and folders are organised on your computer.

Suppose for example you chose to bookmark a Newspaper's webpage, instead of putting the bookmarks directly under Bookmarks make a folder called "Newspapers" or "News".
  1. Open the 'Add Bookmark' dialog box again. (Ctrl+D is a keyboard shortcut for this).

  2. Click on the "show all bookmark folders" button to the right of the 'Create in:' field.
This expands the dialog box to show all the folders that exist under Bookmarks (firefox creates a few when it is installed) and gives you a "New Folder..." button at the bottom.

  3. Click the "New Folder..." button.
This will open a Properties for "New Folder" dialog where you can name the folder and enter a description if you like.

  4. Type in the name of your new folder e.g. "Newspapers" and click 'OK'.
Now you will see the new folder highlighted in the 'Add Bookmark' dialog box and the 'Create in:' field now shows "Newspapers".

  5. Click 'OK'.
The bookmark for your current webpage will be saved in Bookmarks/Newspapers.
Adding subfolders

You can add subfolders to any bookmarks folder in the same way, so if for example you wanted a folder with bookmarks to local newspapers you could create a "Local" folder under "Newspapers".
  1. Browse to a local newspaper website.

  2. Open the 'Add Bookmarks' dialog.

  3. Click the "show all bookmark folders" button.

  4. Highlight the 'Newspapers' folder.

  5. Click the "New Folder..." button.

  6. Name the new Folder "Local" and click 'OK'.

  7. Click 'OK'.
The bookmark for your current webpage will be saved in Bookmarks/Newspapers/Local.

Now when you click Bookmarks on the menu bar you will see bookmarks to your favourite websites organised in folders so they are easy to find.
