I'm not understanding exactly how to upload the dvd video to my hard drive, so I can copy it to a new disc. I have a new computer that came with nero aleady installed. The userguides are very confusing to me. My dvd drive supports all disc formats. thanks for helping a real tech dummie.

When you burn with a single DVD (or CD) Nero should automaticily use a temp swap file. It will load to a file on your computer and then when you replace the source with a clean DVD it burms to it.
Have you tried the default setting yet? Have you tried to write a disk?
