A simple approach to backing up the registry (XP)

This guide will explain how to backup the registry to your hard-drive.

Instructions
  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type in "regedit" (no quotes).
  4. Next, click the File menu in the top left.
  5. Scroll down to Export
  6. Select a easy-to-find location from the resulting box such as the desktop
  7. Give your backup registry a name, such as "backup" along with the current date.
It should look like this:

excl.gif Just a quick note: by default, Windows backs up the registry when you shut down your machine. The above is probably best used for those who are editing registry settings.
