With limited RAM and disk space, the computer would serve for only the most basic of needs like internet access, and it must be fairly old given the specs. PASS.

If you find some other computers for sale, but are not sure about their value, don't hesitate to ask the members here for their opinions.

I have several P-III 500mhz at home. Not sure if I have 3 or 5. It really depend on:

1)What are you using it for. Internet, Open Office, Very light gaming.

2)How much will it cost (and beef it up) compared to the cost of a turn key computer.

I agree with jqweed. I believe 512mb of RAM, and a 40gb drive are mininum upgrades. Does it have at least a CDRW? What monitor comes with it?
And one last thing. Once fitted up you still have an old computer.

Dell package $299

HP package $249

Gateway package $299

These are just to have something to compare to. While I would not recommend anyone of them, they would be a better investment. Just given food for thought.

I'm looking for something that will be awsome for internet and uploading photos to. My current computer sucks hardcore online and I have cable internet, but it seems like 56k most of the times. So I just want a computer that can handle cable internet well. I'm tired of hand me down computers, but mainly because I don't know how to get all the junk off of it that I don't want. There are a ton of programs that I don't want to delete because I fear I'll crash it.

Would reformating the C drive be a good idea. I should probably make a new thread in the win 98 section.

If you have all your data backed up and have all te '98 software the would be a good idea. Oh yea you will need plenty of time. Make sure you download all your drivers first.
If you just want to surf the net it will be more than enough. You will still need 512mb of RAM (256mb min.) because of the security software you will need to run. AVG, Spybot, Adaware, Ewido, ...
What are the specs on your old computer?
Hiro1
I don't have any software. Boo. I'll check on the specs when I get home. BTW, how do I do that. Heh.

Either on of these programs. I prefer Everest. Or you could enter the BIOS (setup) when you boot the computer and it will all be there.
