AVG has released a 7MB update today, which is much larger than the normal 50-70K. This applies to the free edition. To get this update, double click the AVG Icon near the clock, click Update Manager when the Control Center pops up and then click Update. A restart is required after the update completes.

Thanks Leurgy for the tip.

Requires a re-start?
Hmmm... on my system each and every AVG update requires a re-start.

Now if they could only create an update to fix that. blink.gif

Did it say somewhere that it needed a restart? I updated the pc and two laptops here without restarting... huh.gif

I had two updates showing. One was a normal definition update which did not require a restart; the other was a very large update for the application itself which did require it, Luci2a.

John, thanks for the very fast reply!
Yes, I got the huge updates, the version now shows as 7.1.375, I just don't recollect being prompted to restart. Anyway, I have restarted for other reasons so I hope that will do! There are no further updates there in the update manager.
Thanks for answering.

Yes just as I had suspected, a re-start was neccessary for these latest AVG updates.

Oh well par for the course (at least on my system) I'm afraid. rolleyes.gif

I updated today, with all of the priority and recommended updates. None required a restart.

(thinking out loud) Why do some comps require a restart, and others not?? Hrm... dry.gif

I find it to strange as well rms4evr. The requiring of a re-start after every AVG update has only been occurring the last few months or so.
I have had AVG for about a year and a half.

Today I opened AVG and clicked on > Update Manager > Properties
For some reason the radio button for > Update upon next computer re-start was ticked. huh.gif
Sure do not recall doing so.
So I then ticked the radio button for > Update Immediatly
Directly under: If a computer re-start is required
I choose > Require confirmation from the user
> Apply > Then > Ok'ed my way out

Now when the next automatic update is available, I'll see if it helps.

Hi Scarlett
I have mine set in the way you have just changed to, and AVG often updates itself whilst I am sitting here doing something else. As far as I remember I have never been prompted to do a restart. It'll be interesting to see what happens to you now. smile.gif

Yes that was how it used to be for me. ;)

I'll be sure to post the next update test results. smile.gif
