hi. i recently had a hard drive go bottoms up(making a clicking sound and the comp says no hard drive found) and i had a whole lot of pics of my newborn on there that i dont have anywhere else. anyone know of a way to still recover them files?

but the reason i came in here is that i scanned the camera using search and recover 2 and came up with 113 pics that had been deleted but all but 7 of them say that no preview is available and is to corrupted to preview. does anyone know of a way to view them files or am i fighting a lost cause here? the hard drive i was willing to pay whatever it takes but i dont know what to do. any help would be appreciated. thank you

Hi bammbamm21

I would say that the the camera pics are a lost cause (unless anyone knows better). You should be able to recover the information off the hard drive using a "data recovery service" (have a peek in comp mags or online)but check the price before you give them the ok. You could try to slave the broken drive onto another system and hope for the best.

When you get your information back then back it up. Most of us have found this out the hard way.

Hope this helps.

Double check that the files that are corrupted can not be opened in
any image viewing software first. Can you copy the corrupted files?
Like you might normally copy a file?

if so, then perhaps let the HD go, and try a limited file reconstruction?

A search for hard-drive data recovery specialists is the way to go. See if you can get some estimates or quotes as prices I've seen have varied by a factor of 5 for the same job.

well i can copy them to the desktop but i dont have much for photo viewing on here. i have windows pictures and fax viewer and paint and thats about it. i dont know i cant change it over from a .jpg to a .bmp though.

as far as the limited file reconstruction i dont know what that all entails or how to do it.

i did hook the hd up as a slave drive and the comp doesnt recognize it. my brother hooked it up to his comp and used a program he has and it said the hard drive was only like 32 mbs big. thanks for the help though you guys and i will look around for someone who does hard drive restoration but i live in a small market so i dont know how good that will go.
