I have so many cd rw's and my friends are getting annoyed because i keep bumming them off of them, so are they any prog's or anything i can use to convert?

I am confused as to why you want to do it. The only different between a cd-rw and a cd-r, is that a cd-rw you can write to multiple times

I am still not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish. There is no way to make a cd-rw a cd-r that I know of

You want to figure out a way to convert a CD-RW disc into a CD-R, so that they can not erase the information off the disc, correct?

If that is what you are talking about, then yes, it is possible. Simply copy the CD-RW onto a CD-R disc. The disc itself determines if it is a RW or a R.

FYI:CD-RWs are better for when you want the option to remove the information off the disc. In the case, that you do not want to alter it for the future, then a CD-R can be used. CD-Rs are more common to find then CD-RWs, but the prices are about the same.

this should stop any further rewriting, thus making it pretty much a cd-r.

You can use Alcohol 120 to 'finalize' the CD, so that it can not have more information added to it. What it does is just add dummy information to the end of the CD. It makes the disc appear full, when it really isnt. The same process can be used to take that data off. It is easier to take it off, is the CD is a RW. In some cases, you can take it off of a CD-R, but it is more of a fluke in the programming, and not something that can be relied on.

As an example, I got a bunch of AOL CDs, and attempted to erase them, so I could re-use the CDs. Out of about 50, I was only about to re-use 4 of them. Even then, I was only able to remove the dummy data, and not the AOL items.

all i wanted to do is turn a CD-RW into a musicCD-R, and i thought i could format it somehow, I was just curious because the CD-RW's i have say 700mb, then next to it says 80min.

Jason---the AOL cds make wonderful mobiles, and the nice boxes are good for shipping Christmas CDs or storing different kinds of small nails.
