I have formatted HDD and reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Sound wont go. Driver installed and get message "Device won't start Code 10.

What driver did you install? You need the one from your motherboard manufacturer, either from their CD that came with the mobo or downloaded from their website. hth

I didn't even think of the easiest thing! Sound now works fine after reinstalling driver from motherboard CD.
