Hello All,
I hope someone out there can give me some help. I have just returned from a long trip and found my desktop computer completely unusable. With the aid of PC Tools and Spybot I have gotten most of the infections removed with the exception of one. The virus is ROTUE. Both PC Tools and Spybot catch it every scan and I remove it just to have it back again the next day.

Here are the all the facts I know about it.

Virus: ROTUE

Location : HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\uninstall

OS: XP Pro.

Symptoms:
Unable to open any site with Internet Explorer. (Cannot display this page)
Remove the virus and reboot everything is fine for a undetermined amount of time. Check computer within an hour to find same problem . I can Ping all three DNS servers but am still unable to open any site with IE.

HELP!!!!!

The information I found on it, shows it as being spyware.
It seems Rotue is a spyware program called "TSPY_SMALL.SN"
trendmicro.com
cakewalk.com

Is Spybot updated with the latest definitions?
Have you run Spybot in Safe Mode?
How to start Windows in Safe Mode

The individual at the second link, said he was able to get rid of it using Microsoft Anti-spyware.

I suggest you use these other programs also:
(They're all free.)
aČ free
ewido security suite
Ad-Aware

These 2, will help prevent spyware/malware from being installed in the first place:
Spywareblaster
SpywareGuard

Download them, update them, and then run them.
These programs, updated and used regularly, will do a lot to keep your computer clean of spyware, trojans, keyloggers, browser hijackers, etc...

When installing ewido security suite, under Additional Options uncheck:
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Helpful Tutorials:
Using Ad-Aware SE
Using SpywareBlaster
Using SpywareGuard
Using Ewido
