Hi,

I am using Windows 2000 professional. and IE 6. All was fine until I installed the updates for the computer and rebooted. Since then I cannot use IE.

The only place I can invoke it from is Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer -Internet Explorer.

I have already tried removing the update from Admin Tools, as well as reinstalling IE

Please help.

Thanks in advance,
P

If it works from the start menu then your shortcut is corrupted.

Make another shortcut in the start menu by right clicking on IE, choose "create shortcut" which will show up at the bottom of your start menu, and then drag the shortcut you created to your desktop.

Delete the old one.

Reinstall the updates you deleted.

Hi,

Tried doing that. Does not work. What else can I do?

Thanks,

What updates did you originally install that created the problem?
PPS
I installed the computer updates, in response to the pop up "updates ready for install". Did not bother checking which ones, since they always worked well before.
How can I check now?

You can go to Windows Updates, which should have a link in the start menu and select "Review your update history".

You should see:
2000 Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB908523) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

Windows 2000 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB905915) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

Windows 2000 Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - December 2005 (KB890830) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

I see the following two:
2000 Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB908523) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

Windows 2000 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service
Pack 1 (KB905915) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

But I do not see
Windows 2000 Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - December 2005 (KB890830) Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Automatic Updates

I found this from Add/Remove Programs. I was not able to invoke "Windows Update" from the start menu.

See if removing them resolves the problem.

Remove them and then reinstall them.

I tried removing and reinstalling the updates, but no luck.
