If you do the sequence you describe, you land here: http://symantec.atgnow.com/consumer/result...esultType=5000#

which is exactly the same document that people above talked about--same exact solution I used (see 2 posts back). Synamtec has the same information *exactly* in 3 places... go figure. Good luck.

[font=Courier New][size=5]I just recently got the LU1875 message. After reading the earlier part of this post, I used Google to see if I could find a support tech number. The number I used (480-836-0633) was supposed to be for problems with your current subscription.

The person I talked with was someone who tried to scare me into updating to Norton AV2006 by telling me the update problem was caused by spyware that would eventually probably trash my computer. They would be willing to give me a $20 credit toward the upgrade to compensate for the unused part of my subscription or I could take my computer into the shop and have it cleaned up for $200. I tried to just get a refund for the unused part of the subscription but was told that he could only give me the credit toward the upgrade. When I continued pressing, he said I had a psychological problem and hung up on me!

I am certainly not going to use Norton AV again, but as it is part of SystemWorks, I'm not sure how to permanently disable just the Antivirus portion knowing that only one AV program should be used at any given time. Any suggestions?
Roniez
to disable the norton antivirus party, u will have to reinstall system works,
and make it a custom installation, and uncheck Norton antivirus.

Then u will have all the functions of NSW with out Antivirus
And thenu can use any AV u want.
Stan the Man
Thanks, Ronniez. I'll do as you suggested. Also thanks to ferrit (post 18). I followed the steps and was able to download the updates. smile.gif

hello,

I too had the NAV LU1875 error until I tried the unregister/register navlucbk.dll solution described above. It worked well for me. I didn't reboot after the unregister, only after the register, and I did not do the disk cleanup. Live Update worked fine on the first try after that.

Before doing that, I had tried the install ActiveX control solution, which did not help.

BTW, I'm running XP Pro, SP2. Thank you to all the posters above.

Roniez
What happends when u unregister the navlucbk.dll is that it downloads a new one on liveupdate and auto reregisters it, there should be no need to reregister it.

And live update should work fine from now on for you.
And the diskcleanup is not nessecary but can be done by choice.

Hi all, I fixed the LU1875 error fine. Seems to be working...BUT, when I run Live Update the virus definitions don't update. Why?
eg. I ran live update last night and the virus definitions say in the "Norton System Works" main screen that it was last updated 7-5-06.
That's 6 days ago!!
What is the prob. or like you have all been saying...do I need to spend more money to upgrade?! @#$@(!!!

Thanks for any advice!

mrleggs -I hate to say this BUT you are correct - I have had the problem too. Fixing the LU1875 error with the "unregister/register navlucbk.dll" means when you update with liveupdate you don't get the error message and you think everything is fine but it doesn't update the anti-virus files. I have been manually updating for a couple of months. Take a look back up the message stream for how to manually update. Also as noted above don't pay for a new subscription that won't solve your problem.

In worst case senario you might have to uninstall and reinstall liveupdate.
But first, try using intelligent updater. You can find it here.

And on how to uninstall and reinstall liveupdate.
Follow these instructions.

Clean out Files and folders in your liveupdate:
  1. Open Windows Explorer (Right click on your startmenu and choose Explore 2nd option from above)
  2. Show hidden files and folders
a, Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options .
    b, Select the View Tab.
c, Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders .
d, Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    e, Click Yes to confirm.
f, Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types .
    d, Click OK.
  3. Double-click on System (C:)
  4. Then doubleclick on following folders, Documents and settings > All Users > Application Data > Symantec > Live update
  5. Delete following files> 1.settings, 2.settings, 3.settings
  6. Now right-click on the folder called Downloads.
  7. Restart your computer (save any work you have unsaved first)
Download Latest version of Live update 3.0 - Follow these instructions:
  1. Click here to automaticly start downloading liveupdate 3.0
  2. On the pop-up choose to save it, save it to a location where you can easily find it.
  3. Now, Locate lusetup.exe where you saved it.
  4. Doubleclick on lusetup.exe and click yes when it asked you if you want to install live update
  5. Now you will see the installation part of this, and you will see a process bar. when its done, i recommend you to reboot your computer.
  6. Once your computer has rebooted Start your Norton program and try and run a liveupdate.

I know this is a cheap shot at Norton. But would it not be simpler to just can Norton and go with one of the freewares. AVG, BitDefender, AntiVir, or Avast?

mrleggs
Thanks all for you help. I will continue with the manual updates until my subscrip. runs out, then...AVG here I come!!!
And this is what I think of NORTON right now ranting2.gif Sounds like I'm not alone in this!!
Thanks again!!!!
Daniel
Roniez
Ofcourse you can, But also with a reduced support...
imo.

Hmmmm. I thought it was rather fishy when two separate PCs simultaneously began presenting me with an identical LU1875 error and refusing to let me access the latest Virus Definitions without having to go through the rigmorale of messing around in Safe Mode and running the Intelligent Updater - as and when I have the time to dedicate to this task.

I wondered if I was being cynical by assuming that I was being leant on to not ony re-new both subscriptions very soon but maybe "upgrade" to a more modern product than "NAV 2003" (I only have that - not the full "Systemworks" package).

As Symantec dropped Technical Support for this version of the software (last year ?) I took it that I would not be able to ask them and would HAVE to $end them $ome more ca$h to find out if I would have to persist with the manual method.....

So...... if I am to jump the Norton Ship and embrace alternative protection, I believe it is advisable to only run ONE anti-virus solution - does anyone have any links to guidance showing the procedure for FULLY REMOVING Norton Anti-Virus and installing something else ? I'd like to know what ORDER I should do things in.... and I need to select the replacement.

THANKS to all who can help.....
Tosca
Mmmmm, good question. I'm going to run into this at the end of this month.

Thankfully the update prob is sorted now though, thanks to you guys.

Just what anyone should think of Norton's products. They were good several years ago. But after making it to the top! Wam Bam, the customer became unimportant and tech support got real poor! As with almost any company when they reach the top. Look @ M$. just for one. My one gateway desktop I own the XP CD and what camere bundled on it. Now I just have a Restore disk that came with the Laptop and my new HP Media Center XP machine has only a second "D" drive for restore. So I got the 3 year in home package from Best Buy!
But there is one product that Norton has Go Back 4.0 (it might have been updated) that works great. But then ROXIO developed it and Norton bought it from them and it went from v3.0 to the 4.0. I use it on both of my XP SP1 machines. Also just in case I run System Restore too.

I just wanted to say hello and that I too was having problems with Norton. I googled the error I was getting "LU1875: This update failed during its processing welcome text phase" and found this thread.

I have the Norton 2003 platform, and have just been getting subscription updates for the past few years for 30 bucks a year.

Then I renewed in May of this year and then I would get the error message saying my virus definitions arent up to date, which was odd because I just PAID to have them updated. The trying to download the I would get the error LU1875 message. What made it worse was that the Symateic website was NO HELP WHATSOEVER! So they basically took my money and let me with a faulty and worthless Norton AV.

Well see the quote below, I followed the link and downloaded the file and ran Symantec LiveUpdate for Norton and now it seems to be working. Well, I HOPE its working.

I think its pretty crappy for Norton to do this and when its time to renew I WONT be giving my money to Norton/Symantec

hope everyone gets this fixed

I would like to ask, after doing this ferrit's suggested way, will LiveUpdate instanlty download the anti virus updates automatically? Or do I need to redownload the file everytime there is a new update?

QUOTE(ferrit @ May 6 2006, 05:42 PM) *
Norton now has a new trick. The solution I described above (using the intelligent updater) now hangs up; I have changed nothing in what I do. So I have gone over to Manual update. I guess in a week they will find out we got it to work and change it again to make life difficult.

1. go to : http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...s.download.html
2. Pick the option (e.g. in my case Norton anti-virus for windows/9X/NT/Me/2000/XP
3. Click download updates
4. Click on 20060506-023-i32.exe
5. Click Run on next window
6. It will download definitions
7. Click run in response to "do you wan to run"
8. Another box says do you want to run, click yes
9. Click OK to next box, your done
norton_av_sucks
I ran the symanetc "autoFix" option...got this message

================================
Norton AntiVirus is no longer supported - Critical IssueUPGRADE NOW View detailsWe no longer provide technical support for Norton AntiVirus 2003. To continue receiving support, we suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of Norton AntiVirus, which we offer to previous users at a discounted price.

which is odd, because after I did ferrits download, my LiveUpdate works, or it appears to be working. So how do I know if Norton AV is updated and will protect me againt future viruses? The last thing I want to do is give more money to Symantec for Norton 2006

I know im probably not making sense, but im not computer literate so please bear with me.

I'm new here but have been having fits with the LU1875 problem for some time now. It is not yet fixed but this site is leading me down the right path, hopefully. Symantec is losing it I am afraid. Something has generated all this commotion about LU1875 and it seems more than a coincidence that I am also a 2003 AntiVirus user. There may be come kind of block on AntiVirus 2005 as well for I recently refurbished a computer and a OEM version was refused and the key was OK. My contribution here is likely small but it has to do with running regsve32. Symantec does not give you a clue where to run it. In this discussion it is run in the Start>Run window. From what I can tell it will run also in a DOS window. Check out the following Microsoft articles:

Explanation of Regsvr32 Usage and Error Messages Aritcle ID 249873

Regsvr32.exe "/c" Switch Is Not Available in Windows 2000 or Windows XP Article ID 288373

ACC2000: Regsvr32.exe Available in Download Center Article ID 267279

You Receive a "DllRegisterServer" Error When You Try to Register a DLL by Using Regsvr32.exe Article ID 827659.

Who has used regsver32.exe in the command line of a DOS window?
That's all folks.

Hi! I posted here a few weeks back because I was having the same "LU" error message pop up on my antivirus and I'd been using the manual download to get around the problem until I had enough time to do the unregister/re-register thing. Then I started getting the same LU error on the Internet Security portion of my live updates as well. <sigh>

I had contacted Norton about the problem, figuring I'd try through email to see what they'd say -- which was nothing. Big shock there.

But something weird happened the other day. My spyware program kicked up informing me that something had downloaded itself into my computer (and .exe file) which would install itself on the restart. So I checked the details and it was from the Norton/Sym. company. So I left it. Next day, when I restarted my computer, it ran the file. I logged online to do my normal things and both auto-updates ran all the way through, by themselves, and DID NOT kick up the error message.

Now my Norton I.S. and Antivirus both work perfectly. I have no clue what happened.

Hmm. Who was that masked download?

Fellow bleepers,
Symantec seems to have finally addressed the LU1875 problem head on, finally, finally. The other day they posted a new web page to run a tool to fix the problem. I ran it and everything works perfectly. I reset the automatic updates to daily (24 hours) so I was not pestered by their popup and now I believe I have exorcised my laptop. The link is:
and the fix worked flawlessly for me. Good luck.

Yeep that is correct, but it also fixed by liveupdate directly now and days to.
so even if you have LU1875, u will still be able to get the fix thru regular liveupdate.
*latest intel*

and if u want the tool directly here u go

Hey Thanks to all that have helped. I have live update now running but the date never changes on the status menu. How do I repair that????? Thanks Gear
Tatterdemalion
Hmmm. I just tried both of those links and they appear to be dead. The first mentioned a discontinued product line. I'm pretty much in favour of leaving NAV 2003 for AVG.

Would the best method of going about this be to download and install AVG, get its latest definitions and run a scan at once. Or should I try to get rid of NAV before scanning ?

Is it true that I am likely to have problems fully removing NAV and will need to run some tools and edit the Registry. (What would happen if I neglected to take those extra steps ?) I knows NAV tries to connect to the internet as soon as I boot and that when my computer "gets tired" and needs a re-boot to refresh it often remarks about an application called CApp (?) which I think is Symantec's.
Tatterdemalion
Hmm. Curiously, with my NAV subscription due very soon on my laptop, Norton has just automatically - and apparently successfully - downloaded the latest definitions. I haven't had to DO or CHANGE anything - it just went ahead.... after several weeks of LU1875 bovver.

Meanwhile, on my Desktop, I can't connect to the internet at all (my modem won't synch') and am getting lots of complaining screens from NAV 2003.

I will need to connect to the 'net to update, remove OR replace NAV and I wonder whether the Symantec product could be responsible for my Desktop PC's inability to get online.....
Tosca
My sub with Norton ran out on 31st, so following the advice on here, I downloaded AVG and Ewido.

I installed them both before removing NAV (rightly or wrongly, I don't know), but they have both integrated seamlessly with XP. The only thing I had to do was add some exceptions so it allowed my email through.

They are updating every day with no problems at all.

As soon as I installed, AVG found a Trojan and put it in the virus vault and Ewido found 73 threats. Ooooeeeerrrrr!!!!.

Everything is working fine and I thank you for your help and advice.
