I am getting error message of kernal32(?) quite often - I know this sucker is going to crash - how can I prevent for free - I hate reformatting

Restart you computer in safe mode with command line.
At the C:\ type in scandisk.

There is a file missing which your OS is trying to locate. Do the basic scan (AV, Disc Scan), if that does not work, the next safe thing to do is a repair. If it dosen help, THANK YOU FOR LOGGING TO BLEEPING .COM
