Hello, I recently uninstalled software for my scanner and ever since when I try to
open IE or Netscape I get a "this program has performed an illegal operation and will close"
message. I ran Dr Watson and it is telling me that a .dll file is missing or has been freed.
I did a Norton scan and the only problem it found was a missing mscoree.dll.
Is this my problem or do I need to chuck this thing in the dumpster.
It is a Windows 98 system.
Thanks for the help, I`m lost. sad.gif

Try using System File Checker (SFC).

Well that didnt find any problems. How about a master boot/fix cd? I see tons of them on e-bay. Ya think that will fix it?
I dont have any cd`s for this computer.
Thanks!

You said you just uninstalled a scanner.
Could be the cause of the missing .dll file.

QUOTE
Q: Why do my dll-files suddenly disappear?
A: Dll-files are usually used by a lot of different programs. Then when you remove the program using an uninstall utility, it removes all files it installed during the installation progress and also the dll-files used by the program that are also used by other programs.

You can download that .dll here:
mscoree.dll

Ok, that fixed my mscoree problem. Now the error says netscape trying to illegally access memory. blink.gif
I`m going to try and dowload Netscape to this computer and copy it to my screwed up one.

I installed a newer version of Netscape but still have the problem.
Apparently I am missing some windows system files.
