I read that MAC OS X has a built in firewall just like windows XP does, anyone know any more info about this, how it is, how to access it etc.

Yes it comes with a built in Firewall,ipfw,Open up the Sharing system preference, choose the Firewall tab, and press Start. Press again to stop.

thanks for the info
but when i click on the sharing folder under the system pref. menu, it just freezes up and the colored wheel keeps on spinning, any idea why?

Give this a try bgardner
Go to disk utility in your Utility folder. Repair permissions,Boot from CD by holding the C key down. After it boot's,go up too the Installer Menu to Disk Utility and Repair Disk with that. Boot normally when done,now try it again.

Would the disk utility be in the system pref as well?

No it is in the "utilities" folder which is in your Apps folder.
