Full Version: No Sound After Recovery Disc

Hello.

I have emachines T6412.
I used recovery disc to clean the system.
Then there is no sound...

It's not the volume because the volume controller is greyed out.
So, I'm thinking a driver is missing.
I spent 4 hours researching last night, but can't find what's missing.

My computer spec:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (512KB L2 cache, 2.20GHz, 1600MHz FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition SP2
ATI RS482 (motherboard?)
AC '97 Audio, Dolby 5.1 (6-channel)

While I was researching, I found out many people having this problem.
I've read in some place that missing chipset driver causes this, but I don't know what chipset is or where to get driver for it.

Please help.
Thank you.

After 2 nights of research, I was able to fix this on the 3rd night.
Everything works fine now.

What I did was simple:
1) Use WinAudit to find out the make and model of the audio system.
2) Download driver from driverguide.com.
3) Install the driver and restart the PC.

I replied to your PM. Hope that will help.

My reply was:
- Go to www.driverguide.com
- Log in as "driver2" and password "all"
- Select "Sound Card"
- Select Company "RealTek"
- Search for "AC97"

In relation too emachines I would like too add that that have a great customer support team that I used while fixing a friends computer they provided useful information and links too correct software drivers that I needed,I emailed Dell customer support too before twice..no reply, but I worked for them before as a techy and kinda gussed I would'nt get a reply, unless I was after buying 50million computers off em!
