Hey all,
Here goes .. I hooked up to cable with a router on three puters.
The two are pc's one is a laptop. After install to pc 1,wired in pc 2 and laptop. PC 2 set-up fine on-line in matter of minutes. Laptop .. went with same set-up routine but it will not connect.. even though it is connected as the icon in the tray says. Nothing is getting out. the animation on my firewall (zone alarm pro,on both pc2 and laptop) shows it is being blocked. I stopped ZA from starting in windows still will not reach out. Windows F/W is not on.
The only thing I can see that looks wrong in any of the properties type info I've been pouring over is when I click on... status ... support... details. Where the other two pc's have a combination of numbers and letters for a physical address the laptop has ... FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF. Everything else in details looks okay as far as i can tell, comparing it to the other two pcs.

address type assigned by DHCP
IP address is correct The last number is one higher than pc 2
Subnet mask matches
Default gateway matches

I un and re-installed the card the network the F/W, switched wires,rebooted the modem and router and plenty of other stuff I lost track of.

All three are XP .

I'm at a wall ...... help

You said they have unquie computer names. Make sure the workgroup is the same. i see yousaid IP, and subnet mask match. They should be set to obtain automaticly. Same with the DNS tab

That MAC address on the laptop looks completely wrong. What OS are you using on the laptop?
What are the exact specs of the laptop, specifically the network card?

Can you ping the laptop from the other computers?
Can the laptop ping the other computers?

In your setting for the network card, can you specify a MAC address.

You are my hero the link gave me what I needed.. i got on.. just made up my own MAC address by copying another one and just changing the last digit.
I'm re-booting now to make sure it takes.......... waiting........ GOOD TO GO !
