Hello
Accidentltly got that toolbar. To try and get rid of it I deleted svchost.exe.
Although svchost.exe is not part of or required for windows 98 my computer will not boot.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
thanks

QUOTE(http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/svchost/)
Process File: svchost or svchost.exe
Process Name: Microsoft Service Host Process

Description:
svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Can you boot in Safe Mode (tap the F8 key while booting) or in MSDOS mode?
If you can boot in Safe Mode use System File Checker to restore svchost.exe.
If you can only boot in MSDOS mode, perhaps from a startup floppy, you will have to use Extract and will need some more information regarding the location of the file.

What version of Windows do you have?

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com for a boot disk file. Be sure you download the one for your OS.

svchost.exe isn't a Windows 98 file so its likely malware.

Go to the black and white menu where you pick Safe Mode but use the arrow keys to choose Command Prompt Only. Type in the following:

scanreg /restore

This opens the Registry utilitiy and you can pick a good backup of the registry from there. It won't hurt to try it and it just might work. Look for one that says Started and pick the most recent one.

Hi
Did the scanreg/restore as suggested. Computer will boot only as far as the wallpaper background, then gives a "invalid page fault in explorer.exe at 015f:00401f31"

Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks
