Okay, I really reeeeeeally want to learn how to make animations, but all the tutorials seem to expect you to already know how to use it basically.

Anyone want to tutor me with a very very very simple, not too time consuming (for you) animation??

Pretty please? I just need a basic understanding of how to use the layers, I think. Something as simple as making this --> smile.gif turn to this --> sad.gif and probably it would have the mouth in a straight line in between the two. SEEMS like it would be something simple to teach me with....would it be that simple?? ANYTHING simple will do. Just so that it will give me enough understanding to be able to learn more on my own from there.

Sorry, but I haven't tried to do any animations using Gimp.

I don't know what tutorials you have tried, but here's a list of some good Gimp tutorials.
You should be able to find something in these to help you out.
Tutorials - Beginner | Intermediate | Expert | Photo Editing | Web | Script Authoring - produced by the Gimp Team
pixel2life.com - 81 tutorials written by individuals for Gimp.
On the left is a list of the different catagoties covered; 3D Effects, Animation, Basics and Navigation, etc. .....
Also a great resource for other tutorials, besides Gimp.
GUG - an assortment of tutorials produced by the Gimp User Group
Grokking the GIMP - a online, open source book, written by Carey Bunks, explaining the different functions of Gimp.
A pretty in depth book available for free, online.

Thanks again, TG!

That first link, the one from their own site, is one of the ones that I just wasn't getting. Seemed like they wanted you to already know something about how to use it.

The Grokking one is a LOT to read and try to take in, but I guess that's where one should start! I like studying anyway, so that'll be a good one!

The other two I hadn't yet seen.

So now I've got some studying to do!

Thanks!

You're quite welcome, Lily Livered.
Good luck with your "studying".
Don't forget to post some of your work in the Photo Albums and Images forum when you become a Gimp "expert". smile.gif
