Seafox, what if we couldn't import oil? Don't you think Americans would quickly develop the alternative fuels we have touted for so long? Problem is, gov't makes it easy to keep status quo, and the corp's that are financing our gov't.

I was in college 30 years ago: we were the "flower children" and hated the VietNam war 'cause it was an exchange of blood for oil. We just figured when we were in power, we'd create the alternatives. Unfortunately, it never happened. MSM doesn't give coverage to the guys at Waste Management who use algae to recycle carbon waste. What a cool closed system it is!!! The "problems" with these new technologies is the high cost of development and deployment. With the billions we spend every day on war, just one without the gov't red tape would be enough to finance the brightest physicists and chemists and engineers to come together and develop new tools.

Jball, I agree. What is this "cleavage" word doing associated with Hilliary? All I see is v'neck tops and a neck... Your descriptions is very clever indeed. I was looking at the current polls, and it looks like she's "in". Oh, gawd, America is going the Royal route. I read that the income tax, invented in 1913, is what finances our gov't to do whatever they want in the world.

On Fox news today, we are going to sell BILLIONS of dollars of arms to Saudi Arabia. Then sell some more to Israel... Is this insane or what? Saudis are already killing our soldiers with our guns... If we could just build a few MacDonalds restaurants there, all would be good. And what about the arab men who got kicked off the plane for getting out of their seats to pray? Can you imagine seeing a bunch of cloaked men bent over in the aisles of an airplane? Why do they travel when they are unwilling to respect our culture? And now they are suing the airlines for $5million!!! Such horse.gif

And these idiots on the looney left are so dammmm quick to stick it to the American majority, to make room for any minority that comes here - especially the illegals. We have a senator in FLA, Martinez, who votes FOR amnesty but AGAINST medical cannabis. So he wants to keep jailing sick American people who have legal prescriptions for their disease, but wants to continue ignoring Constitutional protection against invasion.

Since the MSM isn't doing their jobs anymore, we need to invent a way to express NO CONFIDENCE in current legislators. It would have to collect "name and town" and get some media attention. Any ideas? We could probably get a grant...

And I DO like Ron Paul. Unfortunately he has 1%. These elections get made by polls: my thirty-something son says "don't waste your vote on a loser". I think all these polls and announcements of who is leading on election day should be outlawed because of that mentality. All candidates should have to submit to a set of questions (and lie detector tests and pee tests just like the rest of us) so we could really compare them. Here's one link: http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidate...6/prez2008.html Hey.. the code is messing with my address: it is "www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez2008.html"

joy while i do agree with most you had to say ,this statement jumped out at me .from what i can gather americas wars are all about oil ,what i am trying to say is every war that has been started by the u.s.a has been for some gain in the future (were just as bad by the way for going along)weapons of mass destruction in iraq ? bah humbug.
what i want to know is why did someone hide all of americas oil in diffrent countries?

Huh?

I will agree that any country that goes to war is probably doing it for "some gain in the future" or, conversly, to avoid some loss in the future.

But "all about oil"? That's an over-simplification, in my opinion. I guess that's why the British are there, too - only for the oil?

WELL, MZ30, with what do you disagree? I always thought my politics were perfect! (aha aha aha)

WW2 didn't do US any good. ALl of that American blood on the beaches of Normandy, and the French forget who protected them: they'd be speaking German now if it weren't for US. (No offense to the Germany of today). But Hitler got his stronghold because of a silent majority, people thinking nothing bad could happen cause "Someone" would be watching. Even the Vatican was silent for too long.

And although I think we had no right to make this war take so long, remember that Saddam was daring us to enter his country. He was not cooperating with the nuclear investigators. And our Prez should never have agreed with the press that there were no WMDs there. I truly believe there were, and because CNN helped the bad guys by giving our war plans and troop locations 24 hours a day, they had plenty of time to move the stuff into Syria.

But dragging our feet in this war might really finally be succeeding in the "hearts and minds" issue. BG04 said such a wise thing: "You can't give somebody freedom,..."

I just wish we were doing more of a RFE (radio free europe for the young 'uns) like in WW2. There are millions of brilliant kids who would better serve the world by propagandizing "I'm OK and You're OK" along with "MURDER IS WRONG". And if anyone will bring Iraq to a civilized culture, it will be the women who are noticing that they shouldn't be killed by their fathers and brothers if someone says she's had premarital sex; that its dumb to wear black robes in the desert while the men get to wear white shirts; and that a clean-shaven man gives great kisses!!! Now, I have nothing against well-groomed beards; I loved one once... along with the man who wore it...

But you are right, MZ; America's got too much money (from our income taxes) to go around the world arming our "friends". We always end up getting shot with our own ammo. And when we outsource our jobs and manufacturing, it takes us years to figure out the loss of quality and the anger that is brewing among our beloved "rednecks" who would enjoy target practice along our borders, and anyone who did not "melt" into our culture. Hint Hint el you-o that no speak-o English in America...

I'm going to sign off before I get shot at...

i will keep this as short as possible ,are you serious about that statement ? world war two was happening years before the u.s got involved .the u.s only got involved because the japanese attacked pearl harbour two years after the war began .my grandfather and his brother were at normandy on d-day grandfather survived brother did'nt .if the japenese did,nt attack the u.s would have sat back and waited till the war was on there doorstep and thats a fact.we were protecting europe while the u.s sat back and watched and that is also a fact .the people in france would be speaking german now if it was not for great britain defending them from the very beggining and not like the u.s who came in because there hand was forced.

there are two many movies like u-571
that paint the picture diffrent ,the basis of this is the americans found the enigma machine when in truth it was found by the british.

MZ - NOW I REMEMBER YOU! I love your dance moves!!!

Thank you for correcting me on WW2. You are right, of course... I didn't live through that one, so only certain things stick in my mind. How could I forget Pearl Harbor? Isn't it correct that, after WW1 did all its damage in re-drawing maps, the U.S. wanted to isolate itself, so it took Pearl harbor to get us involved? And some of the government secrecy theory is that President knew of the impending invasion and let it happen so the people would support the war...

There was a reference to Hobbs the philosopher in another thread here, so I started reading about him. Verry interesting. But haven't you noticed (you are from England, MZ?) that every Country that pulled out has gotten attacked? Except I was so proud of your P.M. for saying out aloud that the third generation Pakistani immigrants are wreaking havoc in G.B. Our political correctness is going to be the demise of our western civilization.

But there must be some truth to "taking the fight to the enemy", that we do get intelligence there, that it is the center of the Jihad. And there are some locals starting to speak out against the senseless violence. I cry for every soldier and worker that has gone there to aid the "innocent". After five+ years, I do wonder if there is any such thing.

I got the joke about hiding our oil in all those different countries. That was a hooot!!!

And about Hilliary, please note the difference between a lady and a woman. Hilliary is more of an it, but I guess we have to call her a woman. She's winning in the polls. I cannot get why??? Except maybe the polls are just as crooked as the electronic voting machines that were tested by the manufacturer (no separation of duties there) and I predict we will have a Republican president until the machines get removed. At least Rudy has business experience and is already rich so maybe he'll do more right by America than the politicos who have no clue what "generally accepted accounting principles" or "separation of duties" for internal controls, means.

I contend that Ron Paul's foreign policy is horrible.

Beyond that, he doesn't understand the enemy we face, and would shrink the military. He will never, ever be voted into the POTUS office.

Oh, and I cannot find any information on him being a scientist.

Here is what I found:

Paul was born August 20, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. from Gettysburg College (1957) and M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine (1961). He did his internship and residency training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan from 1961 to 1962. He was a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force]from 1963 to 1965. He went on to complete Obstetrics and Gynecology training at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1965-1968.

Jwin, thanks for the insight. Bummer, I did like his local policy. I thought doctors are scientists? He sure is ooooold. But you are right, we cannot give up attacking the enemy at their HQ. Rudy is in the lead, anyway and he has some good experience with his consulting firm, so he understands business. And he did perform well on 9/11.

What if we could have one prez for internal affairs, and one for foreign. Maybe both would get taken care of. Did y'all see where congress voted against protecting dying cancer patients with valid RXs for medical marij. and to let the DEA keep arresting them? A measely 15 repubs voted for "compassionate conservatism".

Back to Hilliary - I hate her. I wonder if she's so popular due to Bill? He had a clear shot at bin laden but didn't take it to protect some saudi prince. We were attacked a couple of other times during his "reign", right? The ship and a couple of embassies? And weren't we on the verge of recession at the end of his term? And Hilliary promised healthcare for all and that one went pfffft.

But none of the rest of the Dems have anything good to offer; we'll be overrun just like france and G.B. At least some of the Repubs are taking a firm stance on the borders. But Geo is about to pull the national guard outta there... he gets his way no matter what the law says. At least he is a good enemy to the bad guys, and that is most important, IMO.

We who are 60% conserv. and 40% lib, maybe we are Republicrats? No kidding: a CPA no-name ran for office here, and he got almost 60k votes. He lost, but told me he was approached to run again as a Republicrat. He said it was exhausting work and I think he's only in his fifties.

The Constitution provides for war to protect this Country from invasion. We are being invaded through the Southern borders yet the government is doing nothing about that. Enemy combatants are entering the country with them, and due to failure of info systems to track who's coming, going and here. Isn't this entire gov't (those voting for amnesty, prohibiting first responders from questioning citizenship, failure to build the fence that has been financed, pulling the national guard away from the border) failing to provide the protection we need so we can enjoy our freedom? The enemy and the moochers are being catered to by the looney left: translating legal documents into Spanish is enabling the continued invasion and mooching, while American citizens who paid taxes to receive Social Security and Medicare are receiving less benefits while unearned benefits including welfare are given to the moochers who go on to work for cash. Any American citizen would be charged with fraud for this type of conduct. American treasures like Martha Stewart and Rush Limbaugh (no political correctness for him) are soft targets the govt has attacked. They make charges against people who defend themselves, and when the case cannot be proven they are found guilty of obstruction of justice and lying. The 9/11 Commission said to seal the borders over five years ago and it's still not done. All this lawbreaking by lawmakers should not continue to be tolerated. If racial profiling will help clean up the Country, then make it so. I'm with Ann Coulter: we should not reward illegal aliens for anything. Every other group of immigrants came here legally, got tested for health and learned English. Why are we so eager to allow our culure to be destroyed?

Amen to that! I am all for a war that would protect us from harm and grant us more freedom. We ARE the Land of Opportunity, but we AREN'T lawless. If you want to come to this country, do it the right way. Pure and simple. I, frankly, don't care if every illegal immigrant leaving would hurt our economy (the debate about "Oh but they do so much!" annoys me - if they weren't doing it, I'm sure many others would.) My country's rights and standards are more important than whether or not it has more money than Singapore.
TheYoda
I agree with Glunn11, but the only argument I could see coming up with that is if they leave and the country becomes a little less rich, taxes go up and WE have to pay for it. I guess a few dollars here and there won't be much, but I think we need to get the ILLEGAL immigrants (because I have a lot of friends who are from mexico LEGALLY) and get someone in the oval office to tell the president he needs to stop spending millions of dollars on NASA so they can research a pen that can write in zero gravity...

My point, kick the illegal immigrants out (politley and non-violently, of course) and get the goverment to spend smarter and stop helping people in other countries and help out our own country.

Regards,
TheYoda

Them leaving would have a more positive impact on the economy than negative. Most of the things being said about it affecting our economy negatively come from the...(shockingly!!!) amnesty group. It would very beneficial for them to be deported. Speaking of illegal immigration...you all might get a kick out of this.....

Mexico seeks changes in border plan.

Excerpt:

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico called on the United States to alter a plan to expand border fences designed to stem illegal immigration, saying the barriers would threaten migratory species accustomed to roaming freely across the frontier.

Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has done an in-depth study on the costs of high-school-dropout households, which would dramatically increase under the new Bush/Republican Senator immigration proposal. The costs to Americans would be staggering.

Rector found that the share of federal, state and local costs for each of these high-school-dropout households is around $43,000 a year.

But he subtracted out their share of defense and interest on debt, concluding that the incremental Federal, state, and local expenditures for each household is around $32,000 a year in government support.

The Heritage Foundation scholar then painstakingly dug through government data to find every kind of tax that these households pay. He even included money spent on lottery tickets (an average $686 per year) and excise taxes, as well as FICA and property taxes and many others.

He said he was a bit surprised to find that these high-school-dropout households pay more taxes than he expected - nearly $10,000 a year.

Nonetheless, the bottom line is that these households require $22,000 each year
in net taxpayer subsidies.

Rector's study indicates that these total households headed by foreign-born high school drop-outs are costing taxpayers a net of around:

$100 BILLION a year

Nevertheless, the new White House/Republican Senator immigration plan would ensure that all the illegal aliens getting that subsidy would remain here to keep collecting ...

... and that we would add large numbers of new households every year so that the total subsidy could grow much larger.

In short, this proposal is an affront to every American taxpayer and should be stopped in its tracks.

To get back to this discussion, all I know about Barack Obama is that he is a junior Senator who got a fabulous introduction to the American people at the Democratic National Convention, and that he looks good in a swimsuit. I'd like to hear more about him from those who have seen him in action and know more than just what he's saying in his campaign.

I want somebody who will
seal the borders;
clean the country of illegal aliens,
get rid of HMOs and let Medicare administer healthcare (for a 23%savings in overhead costs)
legalize cannabis and hemp (which will give farmers a new crop and a myriad of cheap natural resources and free 800,000 jail beds per year for the BAD people)
get Haliburton out so that the Iraqi's can work, and WIN the war in Iraq.
AND make a "New Deal" for the American people to invent alternative fuel sources. Hemp is a cheap fuel source, and we waste money importing it. Forget the pharmaceutical companies and the liquor lobbies. They did it to us information systems technicians with the outsourcing carp.

Nope, I'm not "following you around", JoyGreen smile.gif It's just the use of the word "hate" surprised me as while many don't want her to be President (nor would I want her to be Prime Minister of Canada), I hadn't realized that she had political views that were so bad to warrant a person such as yourself to 'hate' her.

The little thing about her patience with her 'wandering' husband was meant as a joke - for if nothing else, the woman doesn't have 'justifiable physically thumping' as one of her bad points.

JoyGreen, I'm sure you didn't mean anything by the comment, "I am pretty sure the U.S. will continue to provide nuclear protection to Canada if need be" but hmmmmm. Hawaii is one of the eleven states that's friendly to cannabis. And he's so young. When are we going to get some leaders who are willing to abide by the laws the rest of us have to live with. Example: there are no pee tests for legislators. Teachers in America have to take courses in Ethics. Today the Senate had a discussion on an ethics bill; I did hear John McCain vote against it. No smoking in all indoors in all of Florida and other States, but the House gets to smoke cigars in their own offices and until recently, in the ante room (indoors) just before they enter chambers where we see them on C-span. I think those guys are using something stronger than cannabis to be soooo disconnected from the rest of us.

I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges. But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005. Let's finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.[125]

First off, he never said anything about "invading Pakistan". Secondly, how is what he said much different than when Bush says "all options are on the table"? We all know Bush isn't saying "all options are on the table, except sending in troops."

As for him not being very "bright"...you might want to follow up some more at the wikipedia link I've provided, and read up a bit on his life, education and career.

Yikes! His middle name is HUSSEIN?!?!?!?!?! I wonder how many voters knew that...and he's a jr. as well. He suffers confusion about his roots? I might not blame him - I wonder where his parents were born.
Quite a few actually. Your shock is old news. And your attempt to interject bigotry into the discussion about Obama is distasteful.

When does the "born in the USA" rule kick in.
Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii ...
Hawaii was admitted as the 50th state of the United States of America on August 21, 1959.

QUOTE
Barack Hussein Obama (born August 4, 1961) is the junior United States Senator from Illinois and a member of the Democratic Party. The U.S. Senate Historical Office lists him as the fifth African American Senator in U.S. history and the only African American currently serving in the U.S. Senate.[1]

Born to a black Kenyan father and a white American mother, Obama grew up in culturally diverse surroundings. He spent most of his childhood in the majority-minority U.S. state of Hawaii and lived for four years in Indonesia. After graduating from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university lecturer, and civil rights lawyer before entering politics. He served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004, launching his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2003.

Obama delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention while still an Illinois state legislator. He went on to win election to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 with a landslide 70% of the vote in an election year marked by Republican gains.[2][3] As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, Obama co-sponsored the enactment of conventional weapons control and transparency legislation, and made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

He is among the Democratic Party's leading candidates for nomination in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.[4] Since announcing his candidacy in February 2007, Obama has emphasized ending the Iraq War and implementing universal health care as campaign themes.[5][6] He married in 1992 and has two daughters. He has authored two bestselling books: a memoir of his youth entitled Dreams from My Father, and The Audacity of Hope, a personal commentary on U.S. politics.[7]...

Number one, Bush isn't running for president, so I don't care....

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama warned Pakistan Wednesday that he would use military force if necessary to root out terrorists,
More:
Obama's stance against Pakistan comes after last week's dispute with top rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in which the New York senator accused him of being "irresponsible and naive" for saying he would meet with heads of states such as Cuba, North Korea, Syria and Iran without conditions. - - (Link)

Guess he likes talking with dictators. smile.gif

There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al-Qaida leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will." - (Link)

He is for much bigger government, will raise taxes, support more gun control, push abortion, wants all employers to pay for their employees health care, thinks habeas corpus applies to enemy combatants that are part of no organized militia, wants to provide social security for illegal immigrants, says hes a "big believer in the separation of church and state" yet doesn't even know what that means, or that its not written in the Constitution, voted against confirming Samuel Alito and John Roberts as SCOTUS justices, thinks we live in a more dangerous world than before 9/11...the list goes on and on.

I still hold hes not as bright as people make him out to be.

Some interesting tid-bits:

...Obama's stirring tale for the Selma audience about how he had been conceived by his parents, Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, because they had been inspired by the fervor following the "Bloody Sunday" voting rights demonstration that was commemorated March 4. "There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala.," he said, "because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Ala. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Ala."

Obama was born in 1961, and the Selma march occurred four years later, in 1965. The New York Times reported that when the senator was asked about the discrepancy later that day, he clarified: "I meant the whole civil rights movement."

NASHUA, N.H. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing again for saying the lives of U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were "wasted."

During a campaign trip to Iowa over the weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd: "We now have spent 400 (cool.gif billion dollars and have seen over three-thousand lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

He immediately apologized, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."
- (Link) Gotta be careful what you say!

Three years later, with Obama now a candidate for president, his embrace of southern Illinois and its dominant industry is showing signs of strain. Obama finds himself caught between his advocacy of huge federal subsidies for liquefied coal for transportation fuel, a technology that the Illinois coal industry views as a salvation, and environmental groups that reject it as a boondoggle that would set back efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the fight against global warming.

After co-sponsoring legislation earlier this year for billions of dollars in subsidies for liquefied coal, Obama more recently began qualifying his support in ways that have left both environmentalists and coal industry officials unsure where he stands.

This one made me laugh....

The Illinois Senator shelled out $375 in January _ two weeks before he officially launched his presidential campaign _ to finally pay for 15 outstanding parking tickets and their associated late fees...Obama received 17 parking tickets in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991, mostly for parking in a bus stop, parking without a resident permit and failing to pay the meter, records from the Cambridge Traffic, Parking and Transportation office show...He incurred $140 in fines and $260 in late fees in Cambridge in all, but he paid $25 for two of the tickets in February 1990. - (Link)

By the way, here is the response from Pakistan with regards to B. Hussein Obama's statement:

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan accused Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of “sheer ignorance” for threatening to launch US military strikes against Al-Qaeda on Pakistani soil.

Obama warned Wednesday that if he is elected president, he would order US forces to hit extremist targets on Pakistan’s frontier with Afghanistan if embattled military ruler President Pervez Musharraf failed to act.

“Such statements are being made out of sheer ignorance,” Pakistan’s Minister of State for Information, Tariq Azeem, told AFP. “They are not fully apprised about the ground realities and not aware of the efforts by Pakistan.”
- (Link) - Looks like he is on his way to strengthening our alliance with Pakistan. yyyyeah.

Jwin, thank you for the research I requested. At 46 he's too old to be so foolhardy. Teaching five year olds about sex is abominable. And threatening Pakistan isn't a very smart move, either.

Bear, you misunderstand. I was referring to Obama's roots in Hawaii, and why did he vote against the sugar farmers. After 45 years of affirmative action, and many black Americans in high places in American government, must we still suffer claims of bigotry? Al Sharpton preaches racism, and I see young black mothers teaching their children to ignore white people. Those children will suffer when the Police have to be called in to subdue, for example the four year old throwing a tantrum because she would not tell her non-black counselor what she wanted. Why don't you take a clue from Condoleeza Rice and recognize that Martin Luther King's famous Dream has come true.

I have met people who recently emmigrated from Africa and they are among the most courteous, friendly people I meet. They realize the great fortune of being an American citizen. My ancestors used to be used as target practice when they first came here. So they quickly learned English and blended into the Melting Pot that made America a great society. They worked hard and achieved the American Dream. And so did the majority of African decendants.

With the radical Islam murders among us, and the moochers who illegally cross our borders, collect welfare and then fraudulently work for cash, all at the cost of safety and jobs for Americans, I would hope you would recognize the enemy. I am not your enemy. All of my life I have stepped aside so your people could get ahead. If you are still not happy, I suggest you take your superior knowledge to your homeland and help them overcome the ravages heaped upon them by their own brothers.

I do not appreciate the condescending tone of your reply, or the unwarranted attack. You make Hilliary look good: at least she recognizes the enemy.

Recently, there has been some media press coverage discussing Ms. Clinton's exposure - specifically of cleavage.

To me, this is somewhat absurd - I guess though, if she always wore a suit and tie we wouldn't be having this discussion.

On the other hand, I was talking to a female friend of mine the other day, and she said something like "I'll vote for Hillary. A woman would be a good change."

I asked, "you mean you'll vote for her just because she is a woman?"

Answer - "yes".

Now, that's really absurd, in my opinion.

Vote for someone just because they are a woman? Or, they are the better looking of the candidates? Or something similar? Sadly, many Americans will vote based on such a shallow perspective.

In my opinion, Ms. Clinton is too far to the left for me, and too far to the left to be anything but a further polarizing figure. In the 2000 election, both Bush and Gore were less polarizing, and the National vote shows that - I believe they were separated by only a small margin. But, take a look at the 2004 election. I believe Bush would have easily have been defeated by a less polarizing Democrat, but instead, Kerry won the nomination and the results of the election were clear - Kerry lost by the most votes ever in a Presidential election, almost 10 million.

I don't believe that someone either well to the left or right will ever be good for the country. We need someone who reacts to the values of the majority of the country, not the extremes or the Special Interest Groups.

Whatever happens in 2008 won't change my mind - Ms. Clinton is not that person.

That made me chuckle. I think she's too centrist. But if she gets the nomination, I'll vote for her. Although, I'm keeping an eye on Unity08 to see if it catches on. Third party candidates usually just tip the scale to one or the other in the two parties...and it's usually to the one you don't want to see win. Too bad. It would be nice to have more choice, but that's the way it is.

Now we are both chuckling!

The closest thing to a notable "centrist" Democrat we've had in a long time is Joe Lieberman, and the Democratic Party wasted no time in distancing themselves from him, in my opinion.

I do agree, however, that Unity08 is at least trying to get people to recognize the damage that extreme partisanship causes. The present concept that the party is more important than "we, the people" doesn't serve any of us well..

What really depresses me about the two-party system is straight-ticket voters, who "proudly" say:
"I'm a Republican because my daddy's a Republican!"
-OR-
"I'm a Democrat because my daddy's a Democrat!"

^Single greatest pet peeve of mine
I think we sometimes forget that the MAJORITY of Americans don't follow up closely on politics - they'll vote on whoever has the most pictures up in their neighborhood. As an Idahoan, I find myself in an area where 90% of the adult population fall under the "heritage Republican" genre - and we get a lot of asses (pardon my French) in office solely because of that!
It's also why I'm against the electoral college - there's just too many stupid people to make it fair (and nothing is fairer than counting individuals equally).

dc3
Truth be told I'm just tired of voting for the lessor of two unqualified choices and at this point I don't see it changing this time.

As for Hillarity showing cleavage, those aren't the first boobs we've seen in office.

...which is why I like the "None of the Above" thing at the ballots idea.
I think the political parties themselves have too much control over the election.

Amen - why can't the best people rise to the top rather than the ones with the most money and name recognition and backing by their party. We need some serious campaign reform, and proven qualifications, and a watchdog group that compares what they said with what they're doing. An ongoing "no-confidence" vote on every legislator is needed. For example: every senator that voted for shamnesty should be sued for not upholding the Constitution. How can we make that happen?
ussr1943
If this was a gov't for the people by the people, then why do the richers get the jobs of running our country? instead we need average joes and janes in congress, senate, and the white house.
dc3
I don't believe that we need more average people, we have too many of those. What we need is the talent that isn't interested in public office because of the comparatively poor pay and public scrutiny. Oh wait...that would be the leaders of our largest industries and they are running the country. Someone remove the soap box before I go off about special interest groups.
TheYoda
*removes dc3's soapbox* tongue.gif

In all seriousness, the reason the richer people run for office is because well besides the money, the average joes are working hard to earn their pay and don't have time to run for office. My great grandpa always used to say that bullbleep makes the world go 'round and good god how right he was! It's a joke really, but you always end up voting for the one whos less likley to screw up the country.

And also, I don't think people realize that in the constitution and the bill of rights, we have the right to bare arms and form a militia...legally... I bet maybe half of you knew that. The point is, if you don't like your goverment, do something about it! I think it was Thomas Jefferson who said, "If you don't like the current goverment, overthrow it and make a better one." If you think about it, that's exactly what our founding fathers did. AND we've come so far from what our founding fathers intended this country to be. If we would of minded our own business in everything (except WWII, because we were attacked) we would be more powerful than we already are. We have to stop helping other countries and help our own first, than we can worry about everyone else.

*steps off soap box*

Sorry for getting off topic, but that's how it is. And that's why Hillary can't be president, because she doesn't have those views; the views of our founding fathers; the views of how the country is SUPPOSED to be.

TheYoda
