Whenever I connect to a network i lose my sound. it normal isn't immediate. it can take seconds or minutes. i can get it to come back only by closing out of all of my programs that use sound and then moving the sound bar. any ideas on how to keep the sound?

I heard somewhere that it could be the sound card but i don't know if that's true or not. any help on this would be great especial since i am almost always networked and can't even listen to music.

There could be a device conflict - have you looked in Device Manager? Tell us a bit about your system and your network.

I checked in Device Manager and there isn't a conflict. My operating system is Windows XP and the 'sound,video, and game controllers' devices listed in Device Manager are: Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device, Realtak AC'97 Audio for VIA ® Audio Controller, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices, Legacy Control Devices, and Video Codecs. Loosing the sound is consistent regardless of what kind of network I am using. I hope that this information helps you to better understand my problem.

I can't see anything wrong in that data (other than you should look to upgrading to XP Service Pack 2 but that's for another day) so the only thing I can suggest is you get the latest motherboard drivers:

Go here and download the drivers (Win98, WinMe, Win2000, WinXP version) for audio, chipset and LAN to a folder where you can find them easily. There will be installation instructions elsewhere on the site if you need them. Install them one at a time and see if it makes any difference.
