I have a printer that I've been using for many years, and am attempting to install it after I reformatted. I'm currently using Windows ME.
Here's what I've done so far.
I insert the software CD, and install.
Then I plug in the printer to the port. I wait a few seconds and go to Add new printer under Control Panel. After selecting my particular printer (HP PSC 950 ALL IN ONE) it installs a driver. Then when I go to access the printer program that appeared on my desktop I get an error saying it cannot find the .exe because the driver cannot be found. This appears every time I start up my computer or select it, and I repeatedly hit "OK". The window doesn't go away and I'm forced to quickly Uninstall it. Then it's okay.
I read somewhere that I should wait longer when I plug in the printer to have Window's PLUG AND PLAY automaticly recognize it-- it even says this on HP's support center and instructions. The only thing is, I looked under my Windows Setup and the box where Plug and Play is, is unchecked. When I check it and click apply, it starts installing and then stops and says a .dll cannot be found and to insert the Operating System CD (that came with my computer). I tried manually searching for this .dll and couldn't find it anywhere. I haven't tried inserting the CD yet as I thought I'd get your opinions first.
Thanks a lot. I'm worried sick about my printer and need it badly.
