Having purchased Windows XP some months ago I was under the impression that a 'patch' from Microsoft was going to fix the problem with the DSO Exploit.
Until I downloaded in the last few days ,an update of the programme "Spybot Search & Destroy', the DSO problem (5 entries) has serviced again and even tho Spybot says to destroy the problems by clicking on "Fix the selected problems" it doesn't ,they keep coming back.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You have an old version of Spybot S&D. The DSO exploit is a false positive that disappeared in the newest version. smile.gif

Yes. But there may be new dso exploits (some are ok) you have picked up as well.

Download the newest version of Spybot, update it and run it and if running it doesn't cure the problem or if the Spybot report confuses you, I suggest you post a HijackThis log for assistance with your problem.

Read the pinned post in the HijackThis forum, here
Carefully read and follow all directions explicitly.

Following instructions run a log, and post it in the appropriate HJT forum, at this link.

Do not attempt to fix anything by yourself yet.

A member of the HJT Team will analyze the log, make recommendations and offer assistance.

Please be patient. It may take a period of time to get a response because the members of the HJT Team (all volunteers) are kept very busy.
They will try to help you [b]as soon as possible.

NOTE
Once you have posted your HJT log, please DO NOT make any additional posts in the HJT forum until you get a response from a member of the HJT expert team.

The first criteria they have when looking for logs that need replies are posts showing 0 replies. If you make an additional post, it will show as having 1 reply.
A team member, looking to see if a reply has been made might well assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and might not open the thread to respond.

So, make your post and wait for a response from a team member.

Thanks for your reply, I will download the updated version of Spybot S&D, I did originally post a Hijack this log to this forum some time ago with the same problem when DSO exploit reared its head on my puter, and the experts found nothing untoward, so maybe its the same this time.

What did the new version of Spybot show?
Silver Fern
Haven't down loaded yet, I'm wondering if I have to uninstall the Spybot S&D 1.3 first, with AVG antivirus it uninstalled the old when downloading the new, but seems Spybot has to been uninstalled to get the latest

I just installed the new version over the top of the old one. It didn't cause any problems for me.

I'll try again then, yesterday it wouldn't download properly. wacko.gif
Leurgy
MajorGeeks.com has a fix for the DSO Exploit bug in Spybot 1.3.
Ronbo
Leurgy, the folks who make Spybot do not recommend or support that fix anymore.

Silver Fern, update to version 1.4 so you can be sure that you are running the most current software avalible.
