I just recently installed Windows 7 x64 bit on my new Sony Vaio FW-465 and everything went well until I downloaded the "Matroska Pack" software, which I thought would read .mkv movie files (trying to watch the Lion King). It didn't work, so I uninstalled it, got a new program, and enjoyed the movie. Later that day i got notices saying that my computer was unable to remove the uninstall.exe and read_me file, and then my windows interface froze. Any program I had open (itunes, firefox) kept working fine, but I couldn't open the start menu, couldn't use exporer to open folderss, couldn't change my wireless settings. I can restart, log off, or switch user, and I have about a 15 second window where I can use my computer freely, then it freezes and I can only access the programs I have already opened. In my Add and Remove programs, I see a "Haali Media Splitter", which can not be uninstalled, and which is found in my start menu under the Matroska Pack folder.
I have tried going into the registry to get rid of it, but couldn't find much, and nothing has changed. I downloaded HiJackThis to bring up a log (I'm new to the program) and it brought up this:

One more thing - I am not completely sure that the Haali Media Splitter is the virus, I've seen forums about it as a legit program. It just makes me suspicious because I can't get rid of it, and upon startup I get messages refering to it's files. That's it.

I did not create a new Malware Removal log because I was unable to complete all the steps first. When I ran the dds.scr a notepad txt file came up with a bunch of jibberish and "LÍ!This program cannot be run in DOS mode." Many more indescript characters were in the file. I also tried to run the rootrepeal.exe but it doesn't support my 64 bit windows 7. Therefore I can't supply any of the information asked for in step 6 and 7. I previously got 2 separate HJT logs saved to my computer, but I don't have direction as to what I should do with them. Is there another step I can take to move forward?

Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.

• Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.
• Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program.
• If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.
• Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.
• Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days).
• When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.
• Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.

Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.
